I use anything from cheap powder (daisy from tesco, lasts forever) to quantum (mil gave me a pack) and don't tell anyone, but I don't see the difference. BUT I do also fill the other reservoirs with salt and rinseaid, cheapest around. If the salt runs out, nothing is clean. I shake plates off, but not rinse them in advance and am loathe to pre-rinse as the dishwasher is ancient brand new (hubby had bought it for his previous house over ten years ago and never used it, until it got plugged in two years ago) so it has a D energy rating.
Anyway, with hindsight I'd leave pots and pans and roasting trays and kenwood k-mixers and plastic items out of the dishwasher and do them by hand... they do not seem all that well after a round in the washer...

Thanks everyone. I am 36 & this will be the first time I've owned a dishwasher, I'm the only one in my street who doesn't have one ! You can tell I'm somewhat excited !! Anyway - I'll have a look around & see if I can see any Finish on offer & try them first. Does it honestly work out cheaper to run a dishwasher than to do dishes by hand ?

Thanks for all the advice, I may well be back to ask more !

    regards

We had an engineer come to fix our washing machine some years ago and he told me that as well as using the tabs I should always put in salt and rinse aid. We live in Wiltshire and apparently we have one of the country's hardest water supplies which is why it is more important for us to use.

Like everyone else we only use finish too. We tried ecover rinse aid a little while back and the dishwasher appeared to stop drying the dishes. We had the engineer out and he told us to always use finish branded products. We thought he was mad but said we would give it a go. We were both amazed that it made a massive difference and the dishes were dry once more!

    Good Luck
