Hi,
I have a €1000 irish cheque that i want to lodge into my £ Northern bank account. I need this cheque cleared next week. Just rang the bank are they are saying it takes 6 weeks!! anyone had any recent experience of this..is this correct?
Any other ways of getting it cashed? Ive already tried the Credit union with no joy

I had exactly this problem back in the summer - a family member down south gave me an ROI cheque. I originally wanted to encash into euros but was told would be charged twice - for conversion to sterling then back to euro!! Eventually I lodged into Halifax account which they told me could take up to 6 weeks to clear - however I think it was clear in about a week to 10 days. I even tried cash a cheque places - you have very little options except to lodge into a bank account and wait, and just hope that it clears in time for you! Good luck!Life's a box of beads - rainbow coloured and full of surprises!:D0

I can't see you getting it done anywhere any quicker, as when you lodge it, and if its not a Northern or NIB cheque it has to be sent to the other bank for them to process, check persons account etc, you'd be lucky to have a sterling cheque cleared for next week never mind euro. Is it possible to get this person to transfer the money from their account to yours?, you'd get it in 2 days for a small fee prob £20 or lessNorn Iron Club Member #64

Hi - not sure if this helps or just confuses more!! I had a dollar cheque to be cashed in the summer and the old traditional banks advised 6 weeks, however I went to the Halifax and it was through within about a week. If I remember correctly think the fee was £10. It was very fast and no hassle at all.
