I'm pretty new around here and I was sent a link to the site from a mate who was trying to sort himself out.
I was always used to being around people who just got things and weren't fussed about how they were going to pay for them.
I'm really impressed by some of the people on here who are trying really hard to get sorted. Just wanted to say well done mate. Me and my partner don't post much but we read a lot and we're getting ourselves sorted now too.
Reading how determined some of you are has helped us. :beer:0 -
Good luck to you Canon. It looks like a good plan for the summer at least, and then maybe you can get a cheap runaround for next winter.
Going off at a tangent.. what sort of camera do you have? I have a Canon D30 that I bought off eBay last year (well this *is* the DFW board!) plus a few lenses. It has rejuvinated my interest in photography from years ago when I had a proper Olympus SLR, and I spend tons of time now going out and about taking photos. I enter a monthly photo comp (which has a different theme each month) and so, for me, going out taking photos can be a cheap way of spending time (well if you ignore the initial outlay of course).DFW Nerd 0350 -
Hi Kuohu, I have a Canon EOS 350-D and a Canon EOS 300. I do enjoy going out and taking pictures but don't have anyone here to share the hobby with, i'm trying to build a website (free;) ) to host my pictures but theres a lot to go through and limited space. There is my equipment list but pics yet on https://www.freewebs.com/canonman
https://www.thephotoforum.com is a good place to chat and share photo's.
Everyone else thanks for the support, I spoke to my insurance company and the deposit I paid when I took out the new policy on the 1st will cover me untill the 15th. So I guess that will be my final day of driving my own car for a year. I just need to polish it up and stick it in auto trader!
I though I would be having second thoughts but I'm pretty excited about it.
Anyone interested in a 406 GLX 2.0 Auto Estate?

What a fab sacrifice. Well done - if only more people would be that brave.
I understand when people work proper miles away and the public transport is rubbish but for you to work 2 miles away will be excellent for exercise as well as saving money.
I long for the day when more people have their lighbulb moments when it comes to driving.....sigh.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

What a great and practical sacrifice to make and all that bike riding will be good not only for the eniviroment but also for you.
I am looking into getting my OH a bike for Fathers day. we live a couple of miles from work but he often works until gone 2am so it is not really safe for him to walk home at that time, but a bike would be safe, keep him fit and lower the amount of petrol we use each week.Success means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. Fab idea - well done! I've been eyeing up some nice bikes that go really cheaply in police auctions. The auction link I have is for down South, but I'm sure you could find something more local on google.
See if you can check out what you're buying first though - my boyf has heard that quite a lot of auctioned bikes have dodgy saddle fixings, coz they've been left outside in the rain...
Good luck!

Wow well done! I wish i could do this but i dont see myself riding my bike along the dual carrigeway in my uniform with my trolley bag strapped to the back lol
But i just thought you might like to know, i called my local bike hire company and they had a load of old refurb bikes from last season they were selling off for £25. It was well worth it, looks like new as they only have them for so long and then have to replace them.
So good luck with it and bloomin well done to you!!!0
