Next Online Shopping - Beware

Apologies if this isn't the appropriate place for this thread: this is a health warning for online shoppers using Next's website which I hope people will find helpful. I bought an item and went to check out in the usual way using my credit card. However, the purchase was confirmed without me providing my card details. I later found out that a Next account had been opened for me. I can't pay the balance off in store, nor will it accept my payment online, until they issue a statement, and there is no information as to when this will be.. Next also send account holders their directory, for which they make a charge. All I can do is close the account and hope that prompts them into seeking payment, which I'm only too keen to make, to get rid of Next out of my life forever!

  • This caught me out too! Very sneaky. Took about a week to show up online and they will issue you out a statement with a number for the automated line to cancel the next directory.

Hate the place where they put the promotional code box too, sometimes it shows and sometimes it doesnt. Ended up confirming the sale without the free delivery code by mistake last time
  • I have a Next account and am quite happy with it as it is very easy to use - but can understand the frustration if you didn't want one!

You can ring them and ask them NOT to send the directories - you are not obliged to have one delivered, you just have to be proactive about cancelling them. Somewhere in the account options you can set up to receive your statements by email, so you get sent an email once the statement is ready and can pay it all off at once - no charges incurred. Can't remember statement dates, as I just pay when I get my email.

Hope you manage to get your account closed.

I was told when I rang to order a couple of years ago that you could not order from NEXT without opening a credit account.
I do now use one but it's very tempting....
