Awwww. Am gutted. Have had an email that we dont qualify
Tho it says they have consulted google earth to look at my roof but our house isnt on google earth. The whole estate was built in 2006 and the google earth pics are from at least 2004 as the ground work hasnt even started.
I have emailed them back, guess I'll have to wait. The will to save every money saving penny we can0 -
Fliss M - you have obviously received the email in error! You should have received a 'no pin' email. If you had said in the 'message' section of your application that you were new build and didn't appear on Google Earth we would have made some further enquiries and then subject to your answers we would have arranged a phyiscal survey as we nearly always do with newbuild, unless we can ascertain either over the phone or by email the roof's orientation and whether or not it has anything that could bar an install (like velux windows)
Please complete our 'Contact Us' form on our website with the details of your application and I will look into it further.

So,
I can see that life is going to change somewhat after the panels have been installed (paid-for system), with an awful lot happening between 11 and 3!
Life certainly changes in those hours. Either dishwasher, or washing machine goes on, but not both together! makes you more aware of what you are using. Our consumption has dropped from 20/21 units a day to 15/16. Not a huge amount, but every little helps.
Monday
Today is a really dull day, only producing 300/400 watts a tenth of the capacity it could :eek:0 -
Same here.
By my figures Monday (12th) produced 5.5kWh all day and Tuesday (13th) produced only 4.7kWh. Both days cloudy, grey skies whith tuesday being steady, soaking "Lake District" rain, so now got some idea of what they will produce on those dull, grey Winter days (yes, I know it will be less than these figures).
Still, very happy with the panels - I await my next electric bill with great anticipation.
I agree with furndire, it has made me more aware of our energy consumption - I never really thought about it before. Now trying to educate my mother to put the washing on late-morning as opposed to "first-thing" when the panels will be producing towards their max output. She prefers to pop the washing machine on first-thing so that they get maximim drying time on the line. I think I'm getting there with her but it is a slow process - re-educating 70 years of habit!

Leave the clothes in the machine and hang them out the next day.
[ I have to confess our washing machine goes on overnight and guess who has to remember to put them into the tumble drier fist thing - before we lose the "cheap" nuclear electricity].0 -
I think that you may have missed the point of my comment John. I confess that I can't see the reasoning behind your comment: "Leave the clothes in the machine and hang them out the next day."
1) My mother (through long-established habit) puts the washing machine on first thing in the morning i.e. BEFORE the PV panels are really working at optimum. I've asked her why and I get the answer "so that they can dry for longer and air!".
2) We are drying (weather permitting) outside on the washing line, so there is no benefit to leaving the clothes in the machine waiting for a cheaper period of electricity as we do not use the tumble dryer and do not have Economy 7.
Like I said, I'm trying to get her to put the washing on from around 11/11:30 onwards when the panels are producing a significant amount of electricity as the washing machine is a "cold-fill" machine & heats its own water.
Hope this clarifies things.

Yesterday my washing didn't quite dry, so I waited until today producing 2500w, and finished them off in the dryer, and didn't feel guilty. Using a dryer also saves putting an iron on - which again will really zap the electric. Yesterday was a really dull day here, and produced 6 kw of electric.
Total produced in 2 weeks 250 kw. I think I'm reading it right - it seems a lot.
Quite exciting - what a sad life I lead!!!

Yes furndire,
You seem to be reading it correct. Last month (yup it was sunny) my PV panels produced over 400kWh and over 550kWh since they were installed on 2nd June.

Yes I think we both agree; what I had in mind was to wash between (say) 12:00 & 14:00 (so allowing for British Summer Time) and then peg out the washing to dry first think the next morning (and pray for a good drying day).
As I write it is blowing a gale and lashing down with rain - It feels more like October than July.0 -
