Towels Hard Drying On Washing Line

oh blimey - you've got a chemistry text book - I stand back and wait higher knowledge!0

I never use conditioner on towels, makes them too soft and they don't dry properly.0

... apologies if this has already been covered (had a quick look but couldn't find anything) but I mentioned to someone that I didn't have a tumble drier and therefore could not get my towels fluffy!! She suggested that I don't add fabric softener to them and then dry as normal (either indoors or on the line). Well I gave it ago thinking every saving helps a bit, and they have come up better without the fabric softener and after just running the iron over them they are fairly soft!
I was really pleased about this as it is much more pleasant to have soft towels rather than trying to wipe ourselves with 'cardboard' ones :j that I thought I would share this with you. x:A ForOurFuture0 -
Hi ForOurFuture,
There was another user asking about this yesterday, so I have merged your thread into that thread. As always posts are listed in date order so you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.

I havn't used fabric conditioner for years and have recently been using the arier or the line. Yes they are hard'ish, but I find that after they have been used once or twice then they are fine.0

Another MSEr/OSer who uses no fabric conditioner and dries towels on the line.
We also dislike slimy towels.
However, we find that a cardboard towel placed in the airing cupboard will soften after a few days - not slimy, but some of the crispness is reduced.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Good stiff shake helps to take away some of the cardboard feel or a rub over with a hot iron.

I must admit that I put my towels into the tumble drier on Econ 7 for about 20 minutes after they come off the line..........

I put a couple of tablespoons of white vinegar in the machine instead of conditioner when washing towels - they come up lovely. Apparently you can add a bit of essential oil if you want nice smells, but I don't bother.
And no, they don't smell of vinegar at all. It cleans your machine out as well! Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
