Maplin's Faulty Item

I purchased an item online from Maplin's and paid the extra for next day delivery due to the postal strikes and the fact i needed it for halloween.
The item arrived the next day but did not work. I took the faulty item back to a Maplin's store but they didn't have any in stock so i asked for a refund. As i had paid via Paypal they sent the item back to the original dispatch location and told me that i would receive a refund in due course. Today i have received the refund in the form of a cheque but only for the item cost not delivery charges.
I could be wrong but i thought that as the item was faulty i should be issued with a full refund as i am currently out of pocket by £5.98 through no fault of my own.
Any advise? Thanks in advance.

You should be returned to the position you were in before purchasing the item.0

Spike, time to start reading.
Go to the top of this page and click on the 'SHOPPING SPENDING' tab.
On the resultant screen, click on the 'Consumer Rights' tab.
Then click on 'Consumer Rights - How to make em play fair'.
I am sure the answers to most of your questions are there.
If not, come back and ask again.0 -
