Discriminination in the workplace - By speaking as my colleagues put it "posh"

Thanks to all for all the wonderful advice. I have since learnt to day that the entire staff seem to know my complete life history and know me better than I know myself. There seems to be a very big leak in the HR department called THE MANAGER. It would seem that the manager was a little put out that the owners of the company interviewed me themselves and excluded them from the process.
When I overheard a member of staff talking to another today and expressing " what do you expect from someone who went to University in XXXXXX", I think they immediately saw that this English Girl still had the Welsh inside.
I called both staff members in and with another manager present asked them where this information was obtained and who from, they held their hands up and dropped the person in it as soon as you could say xxxx.
The jungle drums started and it was not long before I had a visit from our friendly but dangerous HR Department, asking what I was going to do. I explained that as an allegation had been made against their Department, I could not report any misdeameanor to them but would have to go to their superiors and make a formal complaint.
I have done this today - to the owners of the company who employed me and the outcome so far is that all the information has come from HR.
I have realised how easily led people are by others in a place of authority and that some abuse that power. One memeber of st aff walked with me to my car tonight and apologised for her part in the "posh" debate. I hated myself but I found myself questioning her sincerity as I could be the new "power" house to latch onto !!.
I hope not. Hopefully things will quieten down now until the next person comes along but I hppe I do not see a repeat of this with anyone as they may not be as resiliant as me.
Once again Thanks to all

Oooooooh...the H.R. Department....say no more..I know JUST how much trouble H.R. Department people can cause if they arent doing their job properly.....
Say no more.....errrr...is there such a thing as an H.R. Department actually doing their job properly? There might be somewheres....if one looks rather hard....
There MIGHT be an H.R. department somewheres somehow that abides by the law and is totally objective - if so - I've yet to hear of them.....
Oh please...someone prove me wrong...and tell me just what a splendid job your H.R. Department did at some point......:D0 -
Whenever I try and speak with a Welsh accent I sound like I am from Bangladesh!
Goodness gracious me!Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0 -

I've worked for one company that had a decent HR department of 2 people, however by the time I left both women had left the company.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

The last two larger organisations I worked for both had excellent HR departments. They gave me good advice, kept confidentiality, and knew their stuff.
Nowadays it's me and my manager ... each doing a lot of other 'stuff' too!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Well done for standing up for yourself, pity more people don't do that.
You go to work for money and to earn it...not to be degraded and insulted by simpletons. Don't they have any bloody work to do these people? Their manager must be rubbish :rotfl:

Surely there has been a breach of the Data Protection Act here?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
