Zippos gas/fuel!

I bought a new Zippo lighter from eBay. It cost me £20 and was really pleased with it. I tried it and nothing light up, I then realised there was no gas, so, I went on zippo lighters website and they reccomended Zippo gas which is different to other gas....its supposdly better for the lighter!

Well, can someone tell me wheer I can actually get one of these gas refill cans? ? ?

Thanks,

-MoE-

Any tobacconist or newsagent will sell lighter fuel - you want fuel (butane), not gas, if it's the traditional windproof lighter.

I had Zippos for about 20 years and never found any difference in any of the fuel I bought over that time. Afterall, it's just butane

Can I just use the normal gas for normal lighters? Shouldnt they work?

Sorry for sounding stupid, but I bought a Zippo for a b'day pressie and want to fill it up before I give it to the lucky person!

    Thanks,

It comes in a squeezy tin with a spout - I get swan lighter fluid in a rectangular tin from morrisons tobacco counter - about £1.09
Enjoy your zippo - they last for years!

Not the gas that comes in a pressurised can which you "push" into the lighter.

You need the fuel, which is liquid, rather like petrol. You need to soak the wadding in the Zippo with the fuel. Just ask at a tobacco kiosk - say you want lighter fuel, not gas. Chances are you'll get Swan like RosWright says.

It should already have a flint and a spare one in the base of the lighter. You'll see it when you put the fuel in.

    Cheers

Of course its not butane that wick lighters like zippo use, but lighter fluid - it's made of something called naphtha.

Didn't realise you could just get it from the supermarket counter!
