Privat hire driver / tax

in Cutting tax
Hello there,
Can any one help about what I can claim for at all as a private hire driver I don't earn a great deal however enough to pay tax. It is my only job, I earn 50% of whatever is taken. (It is not my vehicle, I don't pay for the diesel.)
For example-
I have a 12 mile round trip in order to collect the car and come home.
Can I claim the fuel for the journey?
If I bought a bike to also get there could I claim for that ?
Mobile phone use?
As you can see I will not be the future chancellor however thanks for any replies.

I doubt you could claim for your fuel, but there is a cycle to work scheme which gives you a tax break and lets you buy a bike in installments.0

I can't imagine that you could claim for anything , you've got no expenses
If you worked in a factory you wouldn't expect to be able to say travel to work to be a tax free figure.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

If you use your mobile for work then yes ,of course.0

But if you work for someone ,they should provide the mobile or pay your calls if you have to use your mobile.Your pay should be 50% no more and no less except tips of course.0

Presumably you are self employed? Your are working on a 50% of turnover share.
Will they let you take the vehicle home, or is someone else driving it on the other 12 hour shift?
If you are self employed and make your place of business your home, you might get away with claiming 20 pence a mile against tax for going to get the vehicle on your push bike?
Expenses for being away from home over night are probably claimable. If you buy maps or a sat nav you can probably claim that. Unfortunately normal meals are not claimable by car and white van drivers.
Does the firm that you invoice for the 50% share have a controller and an accounts department that looks after all the other financial expenses, such as toll charges, parking fees etc.
Unfortunately "fines" are not allowable, when you get done by a camera for speeding. but parking surcharges could be a grey area.
As your turnover is small you should only need to complete simple self employment figures for the annual return.
I might have got this all wrong, is there not a more experienced driver, who can show you the ropes?0 -
You are going to the same point of work every day so you cannot claim travelling expenses. When i used to drive abroad i claimed around £10 a day for meals.0

I was meant to work 06:00 - 18:00 and got to take the vehicle home.
So I would call in from the breakfast table and hope I would get time to finish breakfast before the first job came along.
I didn't actually have to report to the office most mornings.
Not well paid but better than rotting on the dole, when you have been made redundant.
Spare time when "on duty" for job hunting etc.0 -
You can claim the cost of your medical, crb checks and badge back(if you pay these yourself)
There isn't really anything else to claim for as you don't have to pay for it in the first place.0
