Just browned some steak mince and it smelled strongly of vinegar though not unpleasant in any other way. Don't want to waste it but don't want to poison my family either! Did try a tiny bit ( after it had cooked a while) and it tasted ok to me and I am fairly sensitive. What do you think??

My personal opinion is that if it smells like vinegar then you shouldn't eat it... sorryCheer up. The worst is yet to come - Mark Twain0

Where did you get it from.
Years ago washing meat in vinegar that was on the turn was a known practice.Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw
apologises for spelling mistakes - google toolbar and I have had a hissy fit and I've lost me spell checker.0 -
Could it be something that you've cooked in the pan previously?0

If it was just for adults and tasted ok I'd eat it, but I'm not sure I'd feed it to kids.0

Thanks everyone. had come to same conclusion not to eat it, especially as I have two little ones. My husband said it smelled odd as soon as he walked in the door. Spoke to the company I bought it from, a small farm delivery, and they are refunding. So all ok except no idea what to have for tea now...:rolleyes:0

Hi wovonb,
Without seeing or smelling the meat ourselves it's almost impossible to advise you so it really is your own decision whether or not to use it. Personally I'm a bit funny about meat and if it doesn't smell right it goes straight back to the shop I bought it from.
I'll add this thread to the Quick Questions on food safety / sell by / use by dates later.
