Got sacked - the chances of getting a job

A few years ago, I got sacked from a job where I was an agency worker, where the temping agency placed me in a company to work. I work through/for the agency, as they pay my wages.
I went back to the agency today, as I got an appointment booked for an informal chat. I have been told that I will be placed in the same company where got sacked before, but this time I will be placed in a different department. They only specialise in placing people in one company only. Last week, I re-registered my details, and filled in the application pack.
After getting sacked, I went to uni.
After uni, I decided to go back to that temping agency to find work, as I am struggling to find work related to my degree. I decided to go back to that agency to find work, as I worked through them before, and got experience working in the company that they placed me in before. After the chat today, the agency has a record that I got sacked from the company that they placed me in a few years ago. They said they will forward my CV, and contact the referee's for references. :S
Are they just saying that to 'make me feel' better, even though I got sacked before (but in their hearts, they won't forward it:o)? Or are they really ging to forward it? What are my chances of working as an agency worker through them again? I'm worried.
I tried other agencies in my area, but they are not as good as this temping agency, in terms of finding work for me.

Well, it must have been 3 or 4 years ago, so you must feel you made an impact... I don't think anyone can assess unless you give an indication of:
1] What you were done for
2] was it a fair cop?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Data entry errors near the end of my 'temp to perm' contract.
I'm applying for a similar job, but in a different department.0 -
It does not sound gross, unless other problems were apparent at the time. As the agency only place with the one company you have nothing to lose!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

They (i.e. agency and company) might think that I might make data entry mistakes again when the agency place me in the company again.

I hope they are willing to take the risk to put me to the company for interivew (and ultimately the company will accept me). I will guarentee mistakes won't happen again!
I hope I get a call for a possible interview with the company from the agency in 1-2 weeks time. If not, I'll chase up, and see what's going on. Or they might not put me forward?
I wondering how bad the reference would be from the manger working at that company, that I was placed in.
That's another worrying part. I hope they put some good points in too.
I've done some volunteering during my time at uni until now, and the person is going to give me a good reference due to good performance. The uni lecturer is willing to give a good reference too.0 -
You may be lucky and find you / the agency are able to convince them that the past is the past, that you have matured in the intervening period, and that you can now be relied on to do a decent job.
On the other hand you may find that they have candidates queuing round the block and would prefer to take the risk with someone they don't know, rather than someone they know as not meeting their standards.
No-one here can possibly predict what they will think, say or do. Presumably you 'sold' the new improved you to the agency when you spoke to them. There's not a lot more you can do now I'm afraid, you will just have to wait and see what happens next.
Sorry, that's not what you want to hear, but it's the tough reality of having been sacked for under-performance.0 -
It was a 'mistake' not under performance. Or does under performance also means 'making mistakes?

I just found out that the temping agency are recruiting 200 full time and 150 part time contract jobs with the same job description. Hopefully, I am one of them.
I will give them a call, if I don't here anything from the temping agency within 1-2 weeks. Then I will know if they forward my CV or not. They allowed me to re-register and do the necessary tests though, so hopefully, that will mean they will give me another chance?...

Regardless of whether it was a 'mistake' or 'intentional' you were sacked for not achieving what the company expected you to achieve. This is called under-performance.
They have a lot of vacancies to fill, so hopefully you will get through. Good luck.0 -
Thanks for the luck.

If I'm not accepted for those vacancies (in terms of not getting to the company interview stage), what are the chances of getting other ones within the same company?
Remember the temping agency only places people in one company only.
Due to the mistake, would the temping agency bother with me at all? Or throw away my re-registered details, and don't want me to come back here ever again?
I've done the temping interview/tests already by the way.0 -
The agency does not seem to be worried about you getting sacked. The company you were with may have a high turnaround of staff and the staff you worked under may no longer be there.
Agency staff have a really high turnaround too. Companies will get rid of an agency staff member and request a replacement for something than an internal employee may spend the rest of their lifetime doing in the same company!
I am sure the agency are aware of these things and think if you fit you fit.
Good luck!0
