Removing permanent marker pen from a NEW jacket..

Options
Hi

I bought a lovely jacket recently, and I noticed a permanent ink mark on it (wasn't there when I bought it), put it in the washing machine and it has barely made any difference! I cannot bleach it as it is a red coat and the material is 100% cotton, can anyone give me any ideas on how I can get rid of the stain, as I can't wear the coat now and throwing away is not an option.

Thanks

  • Hmm, you could dry a dry cleaners to see if they can do anything but I don;t know of anything that will remove it from the top of my head.

My only other thoughts are a scarf or brooch if the mark is in a 'good' place.
  • i have used perfume to get permanant marker off walls, not sure about fabric though. or a clear alcohol like vodka.try on a bit you cant see first.
    :hello: :j
  • How about sewing something over the mark, depending on where it is and how big it is? A haberdashery store will probably have a range of trimmings that you could put on the coat, some sort of applique patch? You could maybe put 2 or 3 on, so it doesnt look obvious. Hth,

If none of those work try surgical spirit(from chemist) and paper towels and dab at the mark(dont rub) have the towels over the mark and wet the fabric from behind.
Try on a place where it wont show first to test for colour fastness.
  • non acetone nail varnish remover may work check colour fastness on an area that doesn't show first though

acetone works on some things - check colour fastness first.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

    Thanks to all...

Unfortunately I cannot cover the mark with a broach or motif as it's not in a 'good' place. I have bought non acetone nail varnish remover and surgical spirit - neither oif which worked and neither did milk.
I will have to try the dry cleaners and hope they can help me.
  • Hi, thought this might help. My partner spilled some spots of black printer ink on his light oatmeal carpet and (much to my surprise) managed to get it all of using neat Stardrops. I had never used that product before but needless to say have now bought a bottle of my own.
    Best of Luck, K
