That's an interesting read Mustang - you had one eye done at a time whereas I had both done together at the same time and you were on the NHS? I didn't realise they do the surgery you lucky thing!

So there is a lot to consider Toffeejen and lots to research. Personally I am delighted, even with the pain (LOL, I'm not a male and relatively young I guess at 34) which I can only equate to falling on your eyeballs and really badly grazing them. I decided against LASIK because I am an eye-rubber and I didn't want to move the flap (ewww) so I went for EPI LASEK. There are important distinctions between the two that you need to look into.

BTW my astigmatism was also corrected.

Nikki, I didn't have my eyes done on the NHS ... only in an NHS hospital - well, they are now all trusts, aren't they. Due to some nasty eye damage earlier in my life, I was extremely wary about any surgery, so did one eye at a time to see how it went, so to speak.

i had my eyes lasered 2 years ago in November. I am very happy with it. It took me about a year of constant research and courage before going through with it.

Please remember to check the surgeons credentials with the GMC and ask if any enquiries are ongoing. This will also ease your mind.

After all it is the surgeon doing the procedure not the company!!!!

The surgeon i put my confidence in transferred from Newcastle to Leeds. I travelled to Leeds.

    Good luck with your research.

caraboo , do you mind me asking where you had your eyes done? I'm in Leeds and I plan to get my eyes done soon and am undecided where to go for it :-/

I had my eyes lasered by Optimax nearly 2 years ago. I had sat on the fence for quite a while gathering information on the matter. I chose LASIK (cut / flap)as I have two young kids and wanted a quick recovery. Correction was immediate. My eyes streamed for an hour after the treatment (no worse than peeling onions)and I was in no pain. I had been given clear shields to wear to stop me rubbing my eyes, I did wear them at night but wore sunglasses through the day.

One tip I would give is: I went to view the clinic and get some information (Optimax Glasgow). I was given a pack that included a voucher for £200 off treatment. I booked to get my treatment, This was to cost £1500 minus the £200. I waited a couple of weeks and phoned to cancel my booking (2 people I know had theirs done for £999) I spoke to the manager and she said if I kept my appointment she would discount my deal to £999. A good saving for a three minute phonecall.
