Good hairdressers (Aberdeen)

Options
Hi All,

Not strictly moneysaving as a good hair cut can never really be cheap but I have just moved up to Aberdeen from Leeds.

Can anyone recommend a good hairdressers? I am living in the Ellon area but would travel if I needed to.

I get a colour gloss every few weeks and the odd trim as I have long hair. Any recs would be greatly appreciated. I don't mind paying a bit more for a good cut but don't really like Sax/Toni&Guy.

Thanks so much in advance.
Emma

    Hi Emma

I get mine done at Ispiro on School Hill by a girl called Vanessa. It's quite expensive (I'm about £40 for a cut and blow dry) but I've found her to be really good and I end up only needing to get my hair done every 12 weeks or so. She also does exactly what you ask for and I've always been really happy with my hair after she's done it!!

Watch out for Aberdeen Hairways at the top end of Union Street - I had my hair done there a few years ago and ended up with the worst mop head you can imagine!! I told the woman, in no uncertain terms, how long I wanted it but she hacked half my hair off - by the time I realised it was too late to salvage any of it and I spent the next few months looking like Cilla Black circa 1985 :(

  • Thanks for this - I have had a look on their website - looks pretty impressive.

I was hoping to avoid the city - do you find parking OK?

    Thanks again,

There's isn't really any on street parking but if you don't mind paying a couple of quid, it's really close to the Park street carpark (in the Bon Accord centre). I think the nearest free parking would be one of the side streets off of George street, but on a weekend you could be looking a while........

  • Thanks - i will give it some thought.
    Any other suggesions anyone?
  • I haven't lived in Aberdeen for some years but I always used to go to Ishoka in Rosemount. I think they've got a place in the Queens Road too, was a good few years ago so maybe not now but I'm sure Ishoka is still going.

Another recommendation for Ispiro. I get Vikki (Vanessa's sister) to do my hair and she's excellent. I think it's a girl called Claire that usually does my colour and I get lots of compliments on it.

I once really didn't like what someone did (can't remember who) and went back to complain. I got it done the next time for free (and went back to Vikki).

If you are on the Ellon side of town I would recommend James, the owner of Ruby Tuesday on Jesmond drive in Bridge of Don (only been open since September) which has parking at the door and costs around £55 for a cut and full head colour/highlights. I've been going to him for years and he is an excellent stylist. 01224 472361
