yet more arrears help

bit of info, in 2005 my husband was on jsa, we were asked if we paid csa and we told them all the details and were told £5 a week would be automatically taken off our jsa for the csa before we were paid it. Bring it forward to 2009 and we have just been told we have arrears of £170. I know its not a huge amount but it is to us, we are not well off at all and are at the moment trying to cut down as we are struggling to buy food for us and our 2 kids.

We received a breakdown of our csa account today and it clearly shows that the payments should have starte oin september 2005 but nothing was apparently paid until march 2006!

Stupidly we didn't realise as we thought it was going off the jsa as we had been told.

So now we owe this money which is fair enough, but we can't afford to pay it off in one go so are the csa likely to let us pay in installments, I reckon the most we can squeeze to would br £20 a month meaning it'll take just over 9 months to pay back.

Hubby is going to ring tomorrow as he is at work til late tonight but just wanted some reassurance really!

Thanks if you have read this :o

An offer is an offer, and I cannot see why they should refuse .
  • thanks for your reply DUTR.

We would love to pay it back in one go but its just not possible, we managed to pay off £589 in arrears last month using every penny we had kept aside for xmas, I thought it was better to pay the arrears off.....lol

The guidelines are that any arrears should be paid within 2 years so you should be fine. They may ask for a breakdown of income and expenditure - or you could get your local CAB to do one for you to show that you would only be able to make minimal payments towards the arrears.
