What to say to creditors while we're getting fee together?

Hi All,

Just wondered how the rest of you handled your creditors whilst you were getting the fee together for the bankruptcy. My Hubby and I both need to declare and we can't get it waived (looked into that already!), so we need to save £1020. I have worked out that it will take us to March next year to save that much.

In the meantime what do we say to our creditors and what are they likely to do?

Thanks, F

Just tell them that you're speaking to the debt charities and you would like to request that all communication is done in writing. Don't answer the phone to them, and most of all - DO NOT TELL THEM YOU ARE GOING BANKRUPT as they will up the anti even more.

They will undoubtedly give you a hard time, just unplug your phone if they become a nuisance. It won't be long until March is here :)

Have you taken Debt advice from folk like CAb, etc?

They can intercede on your behalf, to set up a token payment scheme....usually about £1 a month.

If nothing else , this show you have been 'willing' to continue paying.

For sure, most will not agree to anything of this sort....but simply pay each creditor £1 a month....this will usually stand for about 6 months.....before most DCA's start threatening court action.

You WILL be hassled, by phone and letter, there is no doubt in that..it's what DCA's do....

My advice is, to avoid telephone communication with creditors.

    Communicate by letter only.

There is no need to inform them of your intentions to go BR.

You only have less than 4 months to your target date.....it is doubtful any creditor could get their act together to go to court before then anyway....and if they do, then the court will ask you for a SOA....and then it all gets included in the BR when the time comes.

So..stop paying CC's...but keep up the normal household payments like pwoer, C tax, water,etc....just ''ignore'' the rest.....they really cannot do much to you now...especially as you have decided on your course of action.

If need be, can you not go BR on separate dates?
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
