Tax credits - over payments

I'm due for my second CCCS interview on Tuesday and hopefully will be able to set up a realistic debt management plan, up until now I've only been able to make £1 token payments.

The tax credit people are adamant that my payments for this year are £186 per month whereas last year they were £40. My circumstances haven't really changed that much and so their figure is wrong. I've tried arguing with them but it's like talking to a brick wall. I know that this time next year they are going to want most of their money back.

Does anyone know if I can exclude (although obviously I'll tell the CCCS about it) this £140 overpayment from my budget so that I can put it away ready to give back to the tax credit people next year?

I'm worried about it either way. If I use it to pay off my debts more quickly then I won't have it available to pay back the overpayment. If I put it away and don't use it for debt payments then I'm not paying off as much as I could.

Your advice would be very much appreciated.

    Hi,

I reckon CCCS will advise you on this one - perhaps they could liase with the tax credits people too? Maybe if they know you'll not be able to pay it back next year, they might sort it sharpish?! On the other hand, they are obsinate and don't listen!!

Hope you get it sorted - let us know what happens
