We have a guy at work who has a 'weight problem', we had to buy in a special chair for him. No joke. I worked in a building of 1000 people, only 2 of them were so large that special arrangements had to be made for them. As a whole I don't think the country is getting so obese that we have to start asking eveyrone who applies for a job their BMI in case a special chair is required. Or maybe I'm completely out of touch, are we getting so fat that normal office chairs aren't big enough? Do we need supersize chairs?0

Can a company ask for your height and weight on an application form if it has nothing to do with your ability to do the job (an office job in this case)?
Can they ask it on a 'medical questionnaire' ?
I'm not sure if it can be asked (legally speaking) or not, but I've come across this before, though not in this country. In a well-known up-and-coming economy in which I once considered settling for life, it's commonplace for job applications to specify that they're only looking to interview attractive people (for jobs in which attractiveness has absolutely no bearing on ability to do the job). They also commonly advertise vacancies for "Western"-looking people also. i.e. no blacks, Asians, or other ethnic groups - counting out even the country's own host population.
Additionally, I saw a managers' job advertised in the Netherlands, for which the company (a well-known global chain) were specifically advertising for people of British/Irish descent to join their company...bearing in mind that the job role seemed to have absolutely nothing to do with Britain or Ireland.£1 / 50p 2011 holiday flight + hotel expenses = £98.50/£600
