the arrears rose whilst we were appealing the £72 approx assessment (I cant remember the exact ammount it was such a long time ago), we were advised to pay 2/3 of it whilst appealing and it went up and up, we won the appeal but it never got took back to the beginning,

the only trouble i have is that i didnt keep all the paperwork, you know what your like when young if it happened now i would have every last bit!

The amount you are paying is approx £14000. Does it sound possible for that amount of money to rack up in the space of time it was supposed to?

It sounds like you might need to try getting some help from NACSA (if you google them, they help people with disputes with the CSA) but it does beg the question, if you knew you were paying an incorrect amount, why wait so long to correct it?!

    sorry didnt make myself clear

Nope you didnt, there are plenty people on here willing to offer advice but you need to help things along by being clear!
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

We have been paying the £50 a month arrears since we stopped paying for full maintenance, we were only paying about £5 a week arrears up to then and i think we only started paying the arrears off in the last few years of full maintenance,

you know i never actually sat and thought about the arrears before, the full amoun i mean, I was just happy that we didnt have to pay the £72 ish a week and that the CSA were off our backs, it was a bad time!

that was a lot of arrears, i wish i had all the paperwork! i was really young at the time and were obviously not as clued up as now.

I am now wondering where all this arrears came from, can you get in touch with the csa and ask for a break down,

We have always paid the CSA, the only time I can remenber not is when they assessed us at the £72, do they add interest??

Shell-542, the reason we have not done anything before is that we were too scared too incase they made us pay loads more! Believe me the CSA caused us lots of problems, my husband had already signed over the £20K in the house and left everything in lieu of maintenance but the CSA did not take this into account when it began!

The figure of £14000 was paying £50 a month for 17 years, if you were paying £5 a week before, for some time, the figure would be reduced somewhat.

There is a chance if you flagged it up with them, they would then want the arrears repaid within 1 and 2 years so it's a risk you would have to take if you investigated further into how the arrears appeared.

There could be lots of reasons the arrears rack up. They seem to like adding arrears onto NRPs accounts and not explaining why and it normally takes a lot of digging by the NRP (and sometimes an MP and/or NACSA) to get to the bottom of why they are there.
