I use a 4.5tog hungarian goose down duvet all year round (seem to remember it cost me about £150 for a kingsize one in John Lewis) it is easily the warmest and lightest duvet I have ever had - and no I haven't got the heating on yet either. Have you got decent insulation underneath you as well? a couple of layers of fleece between your sheet and mattress might make all the difference and cost a lot less than a new duvet! (If you really suffer from cold then a memory foam mattress topper is also worth considering.) If your duvet is really flat and you're about to give up on it then take it to the laundrette and tumble dry it (you don't necessarily have to wash it first ;) as this might help restore the loft. You do need to treat your duvet well though. Make sure it goes ON TOP (if you want to use an extra layer put it under the duvet or it squishes out the air) and that you go underneath - that might sound obvious but if you lie on top of the duvet you will damage it, and it's surprising how many people don't know this.

  • We've just recently bought a pure wool duvet.
I was shocked at how thin it was and it does'nt need a tog rating so I was a bit dubious as to whether it would be comfortable and serve it's purpose.
It is so warm and comfortable though I wish I'd got one ages ago as it's lovely.
