The £100 offer ends today, so if like me you were thinking of doing it but procrastinating, do it!
I went for the £45 from quidco too.
mentioned here, a little way down.

We did this- it was really simple. Halifax have changed their overdraft policy and it was ridiculous so we switched, and went via Quidco too.0

Yes, it's Halifax's change to their overdrafts that made my husband want to switch. He slips overdrawn by a few pennies sometimes, never more than a pound.
I've been reading the forums about this offer and people don't seem impressed with customer service etc. but we'll give it a go for the possible £145
Our main account is elsewhere, so if A+L mess things up none of the important direct debits will be affected.52% tight0 -
I did this last month it was fairly easy and I got my £100 bonus on Friday, perfect timing to start my Christmas shopping

Can you switch to this if you are running a large overdraft?
I hope they match my 1k OD I have with Halifax!
I also have 2 current accounts with Halifax, 1 for DD's and 1 for TC's and Child Benefit, can I apply for another one with A&L as I have already been accepted with one, but need 2 accounts?
Thanks in advanceWedding on hold until 2011. Mummy to DD1 3/2/6 DD2 5/10/7! Mortgaged to my eyeballs!0 -
I don't know. I've tried reading all the threads but there are lots of them!
From what I can tell the only part of the switching thing you MUST do to get the £100 is to switch your direct debits. I don't think closing your old bank account is necessary, although perhaps someone who knows more about this offer could clarify.
Maybe you could keep your overdraft at your other bank? you only need to pay in £500 to A+L so perhaps you could keep your salary going into your old bank too, and just transfer £500 across each month then transfer it back again (less the amount needed for the direct debits you switched, of course).52% tight0 -

I tried that and I'm fairly good with these things. A&L ballsed it up their end by rejecting my standing order after 3 months (random at the time?) so charged me £5 for not not paying in that month. It took 3 months to get it sorted. £15 in charges.
They then proceeded to lose my £3500 linked regular saver. Customer services are shocking there.
Sorry, rant over --- Warning: Grumpy Old Man in Training ---0 -
I'm very happy with my A&L account which has been up and running for a couple of years now and I didn't need to close my other account. I just wish I could make my DD and her BF see what a good offer this is!0

I changed a few weeks back when Lloyds TSB agreed to increase my overdraft from £500 to £1,000, and when the letter came through confirming the increase they said they would be charging me 18.84% interest (on an authorised overdraft!) Robbing bar stewards! :rotfl:
Anyway A&L have only given me a £400 overdraft, I asked them to increase it to £1,000 but am awaiting a decision, so am potentially in a tricky situation as the Lloyds TSB Ts&Cs say they can cancel the facility at any time, and obviously they won't like my salary going to A&L each month.
However A&L have given me a Santander credit card with a £2,000 credit limit, so if necessary I will have to play fast and loose until I bring the o/d back down to £400.
Watch out for them trying to sell you all sorts of over-priced rubbish when you ring up to activate the A&L debit card, and then again when you ring up to activate the Santander credit card! :rotfl:Thanks to all who post constructively.
Have an A1 day!0 -
I TRIED to open this account over a year ago. I am STILL waiting for the card and pin number.
I've been back into the branch on several occasions, and I gave up after asking for it re-sending for the fourth time, when the lady dealing with me said they had no record of my application for a re-send.
I STILL haven't got any of my account details or anything, but I get their email-outs just fine trying to sell me other services! Rubbish!0
