help with os star wars party!

I am organising a party for my soon to be 6 year old. Have booked a nearby hall - its an enormous gym hall but only £20. I have googles a lot and found some very comlicated ideas for star wars jedi training camp style birthday parties but they require a lot of resources and planning to make them work and for a 6 year old I dont think its rerquired. I am intending to do simple party games but with a star wars twist. Does anyone have any good ideas, I am running out!:
- musical millennium falcons (like musical chairs but with a picture of millennium falcon on each chair)
- Yoda says (Simon says)
I have a CD of star wars music and star wars napkins etc... for the tea party. Star wars rice paper toppers for fairy cakes and big cake with be a light sabre made fro jumbo swiss rolls. I also have a child's darth vader costume, sadly it is too small for an adult organiser to wear, I havent thought of a good game to base it arround.
I would love to hear from anyone to has any creative ideas, I am just a little fresh to all this and lacking in confidence!
Thanks Karyn x

    - using the darth vader costume..... a dressing up race. Probably would be better if you could get hold of/make another costume. First to 'use the force' wins???
    - pass the parcel..... rather than little pressies in each wrapper, print out 'jedi power cards' a bit like top trumps and the kid at the end with the highest jedi power gets a prize.

had a quick google (star wars mad 5 year old here too, might have to steal your ideas!) and came up with these......

  • With regards to the Darth Vader costume, how about a game of What's the Time, Darth Vader? Based on What's the Time, Mr Wolf, the children all shout "What's the Time, Darth Vader?" and said child would have to say a time, like 4 o'clock. The children would take 4 steps forward. When the group gets close, Darth Vader says "Time to join the Dark Side" and tries to catch one of them to be the next Darth Vader :) I remember playing this game as a child in the playground :)

Ooh, you could play "Statues" with the Cantina music :D The music plays, and when it stops the children all have to become statues. If anyone moves, they're out :D

The day sounds like it'll be lovely. I'd be tempted to make some "Jabba bites" by taking marshmallow teacakes and putting them on a slice of chocolate swiss roll with a couple of eyes of some description - white chocolate chips would work quite well.

I hope you have a lovely day and that it all turns out well :) I'll keep thinking, and if anything else springs to mind I'll post it

  • Thank you both for your ideas! The websites were different from one I had found and a few simple ideas I shall incorporate. I also really liked the WHats the time Darth Vader that will be perfect. I am going to type up a plan later in the week and shall post it back for others incase its helpful!

Found a few ideas for re-naming the food. Such as calling any type of cookies 'Wookie Cookies', pizza slices 'Pizza the Hutt' and lemonade/cola 'Yoda Soda'

Here's a great link to a Star Wars party, love the cupcake light sabre. Genius.

If you need balloons, banners, badges, decorations etc for the party then I can recommend partypuffin.com.

They have loads of products (including a Star Wars section) at very low prices and provide a very reliable & speedy service.

    Hope this helps!

A useful post but are you plugging your own website? All of your posts are plugging the same site so I'd guess you are.

Perhaps you might like to be more honest about it?

  • Hi thoight I'd just come back to say the party was a great success, we all had a ball and quite a few mums reported back they had been told it was the best party they had ever been to, I was so chuffed!

Here is the plan I followed:

    Star Wars Party

4.30 Guests arrive – balloons out and music on – everybody picks their own character badge

    4.40 Musical Millenium Falcons (chairs)

4.50 What’s the time Darth Vader

    5.00 Pass the Parcel

5.10 Jedi v Sith (tunnel tig)

5.20 Pin the light saber on Luke Skywalker

    5.30 Tea Party

    5.50 music / balloons /run about

Back up: statues (pretend you have been frozen like Han Solo)
rescue Princess Leia - she is a picture inside a balloon!

    Jedi vs. Sith:

Siths = baddies who use the dark side

Jedi = Jedi Knight – the goodies

First, pick one or more players to be Jedi knights, and everyone else is a Sith. When the Jedi hear command "May the force be with you!", they must try to catch as many Sith as they can. If players get caught, they must go to a designated area called "Sith Prison," where they must stand still with their legs spread apart.

To be rescued, one of their Sith friends has to crawl through the captured player's legs. Keep playing the game until everyone has been caught, or it's time to move to the next Star Wars birthday party game.

    Whats the time Darth Vader?

Based on What's the Time, Mr Wolf, the children all shout "What's the Time, Darth Vader?" and said child would have to say a time, like 4 o'clock. The children would take 4 steps forward. When the group gets close, Darth Vader says "Time to join the Dark Side" and tries to catch one of them to be the next Darth Vader

The biggest hit of the party was WHats the Time Darth Vader - they LOVED it! and the Jedi/Siths tig was good too (its a variation on tunnel tig which they all knew from football/PE). Our party was only 1.5 hours, if I had a 2 hour party I would probably have done some of the "feel the force" jedi challenges from the links in Mambury's post. I made character badges from the star wars films (20 different characters for 12 kids and they loved coming in at the start and picking their own character each. For the food I bought star wars rice paper toppers for ebay to put on fairy cakes and made a light sabre birthday cake using jumbo swiss rolls and icing (came from the very old thread on here on HM birthday cakes).
I have made a PDF file of my invitations/thankyou letter and stickers if anybody wants to have it.
    Thanks again for the suggestions!
