Christmas Pudding help please

I have just mixed my christmas puddings (never made them before) and it says to steam them for 5 hours in a pan. I wanted to cook them today but as I am having guests for lunch, I really need my hob space so wondered if I can use my electric steamer that I normally use for veg or will this spoil the results. Alternatively, can I use my slow cooker to cook them?

I always use our electric steamer to cook our puds. I presume you're cooking it in a covered basin? Ours always come out fine cooked like this.0

Thank you so much kittycat07, I am doing individual ones, although the recipe gives timing for 2lb puddings. Any idea how long individual ones would take in a steamer?0

Can anyone help with timings for individual size puddings please.0

In Delia's recipe, she steams individual 6oz puds for 3 hours and reheats for an hour, although her original cooking time for the large pud is longer than yours. (at the end of the recipe)

can't help with timing for little ones, but defo the slow cooker! I put an upturned plate on the bottom of my slow cooker and put the pudding on top of that!

Oh can I ask a quick question? I want to make a xmas cake but not use alcohol, if I am using fruit juice to keep it moist can I still make it now and feed it over the next few weeks or am I better to make it closer to the time?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

can you cook a sponge pudding in the slow cooker too? I haven't tried making a sponge pudding for years - used the microwave before but we don't have one now.weaving through the chaos...0 -
