What next? Bad week in progress!

Ok first my 17 year old cat died, she was at my mum's house so they put her down and I never got to see her again. Then my OH got given a weeks notice yesterday...it's all such horrible timing. I am on a DMP with the CCCS which is working out well, slowly I am getting there. I am due an annual bonus from work at the end of Jue for around £5k so was going to be able to clear some of my £5/600 debts...giving the other creditors more as a result via my DMP so would be able to pay it all of quicker!

Now I don't know what is going to happen as I might need that money for living purposes while my OH looks for another job. I am trying to be positive as I'm sure he will get something else, but in the weeks leading up to the last day or so we have been talking about getting engaged a lot and perhaps booking a cheapy holiday but now it seems a distant memory! I know we need to get financial stuff sorted out before anything else but just wanted to rant a bit!

    Have you made an SOA?

If so i would set aside a months (or two if you like security) expenses to cover in emergency and use the rest of the bonus for debt repayment

Sorry about your recent misfortunes, hopefully things will turn around soon

Aw loopy - that sucks about your OH & Kitty (((hugs))) to you.....

Yeh I agree with Kevicho, put a little aside to cover yourself and then make extra payments, that way you'll have some security & would have reduced debts.....

Thanks guys!! You are all so nice.

I am lucky I am not one of those people that get really down and can't see the positive side of things, it annoys me when people complain about their problems but don't seem to want to do anything to help the situation! My poor little puss can't be helped, we are lucky as she got ill very quickly and died before she suffered too much.

As for the OH he wasn't happy in his job anyway so maybe we need to think this is a good thing, and will really spur him into getting something better and more well suited to him. We have some savings put aside so that will tide him over for the next month or so by which time he will hopefully have something...and if he does I can use my bonus as originally planned.

Gotta be positive, if I think it won't work out then it definitely won't! Who agrees with that philosophy?

As for employment prospects, you just need to look in the right places. I work in recruitment, and as a rule the jobs employment agencies have aren't fantastic! So I know the right places to look and I will help him as much as I can.

I will make him positive, I don't take well to negativity!!

well done laura, with that attitude you all will have things right in no time.

sorry about the kitty and OH's news, but as you say, you have a clear direction ahead so you know how to deal.

i agree with the posters above, just set aside a couple months' fall back money, should better times be awhile in getting going

    all the best

awww...big hugs re puss cat...I LOVE cats (have 4!) and have always been gutted when they've gone or had to be put down...much better than being in pain tho..
Re the job etc just try & see this as a "regroup" time when you can reassess your priotiries and use the experience for your benefit if you are able to turn it round that way its great. ALL of us have down days and its perfectly natural, even when not struggling with the huge burden that g=comes with debt. Big hug for you both!

  • It's the first pet I have lost so very hard! The whole experience was so costly too, was £174 for her being put to sleep, storage and medication. They are very professional about it though, even posted a little sympathy card! Buried her in the garden last night sniff sniff.

    Thank you for the hugs!
