Debt collector at door.

I agree with everything brizzie said except the last point - addresses aren't blacklisted, only people. So unless you have a financial link with your bf (joint financial products) then you don't have to worry about your credit rating.
Precisely.
Adverse data on someone else's credit report can only effect yours if you are financially linked; i.e. joint accounts, loans, mortgage, applications etc......
Simply having an address in common does not.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

So lenders can see the information but cannot use it to credit score.
Only a financial link can do that, so in this case a credit search by a potential lender would not show up the BF's details/credit history.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

hiya
sounds like an awful experience for you and your daughter. i'd be the same though, he'd rattle on and i'd be too shocked to tell him to sling his hook!
at least if they ever come back you can tell them you won't be speaking to them, or don't answer the door. it's rotten they're doing this.
the whole thing is to frighten you into getting your boyfriend to pay more though. good luck, i hope this gets sorted soon x0 -
I see you have cleared that up, but to go a step further, you and your record are linked to that address - for the purpose of cross checking info about you. Your record does not [or should not] have any bearing on anyone who has lived at that address before, during or after unless you are financially associated with that personI am still linked on my file to an address I moved from in 1995 and there are clear references to address searches being conducted on credit reference checks. The Court information section also contains sections for current, past, and linked addresses.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Hi, i wonder if you can help me with this one? Ive just had a collector from a company called Scotcall. This was for my boyfriends debt from his marriage. My boyfriend stays with me sometimes but isnt living with me at the moment as i simply cant afford it. However as he is living with friends etc (no permanent address) He has used my address for things like his divorce paperwork to be sent etc. It appears he has given this address for a number of other things too. The debt collector spoke to my boyfriend and told both him and i that i would be liable for the debt. That the debt is registered at my property and if he went bankrupt my equity would be taken into account. That i would have to disassociate myself from him via experian and equifax etc. Is this right? Allowing him to use my address can mess up my own credit and even render me liable? Please help!!!!
What a load of B*ll*cks! In my dark and distant past, I used to collect debt, and my DH does part-time now (don't shoot me,we are paying off our own:D). This guy knows as much about debt collecting as I know about quantam physics.:rotfl:
It is HIS debt not yours, and the person that stated that he has as much right as the paper boy is correct! Debt collectors are SUPPOSED to work within guidelines and this dude didn't.
You are liable for nothing and doorstep collectors are self employed working on commission, and this guy obviously wanted to scare you and collect as much as he could. In fact, he isn't even supposed to be discussing anything with you at ALL.That is a breach of the DPA actually.
I personally would tell him to fook off and google the Harrassment of Debtors. It is on the OFT website somewhere, read carefully and quote back if he comes near, cos he is quoting stuff that is not true.A complaint to Scotcall may do some good, but if not a complaint to your Local Trading standards may suffice. If he comes back, advise him you require to tape his convo on your mobile (you don't need to,just tell him you are going to) and I bet he will disappear faster than a jack Russel chasing a cat.:rotfl:
My Dh may be in an unpopular job,but he only bothers with people that are willing to make payment arrangements, if they don't have the money or don't want to pay,he just gets in his car and !!!!!!s off.

:rotfl:In my dim and distant past my ex used to collect debt for a TV rental company. He went to one house to repossess the telly only to find that the bailiffs had already been for poll tax as it was then and took furniture including the telly ( as the person couldn't prove it was rented)

There was a parrot in a cage and joking he said"I'll have that instead" - and the bloke told him to take it as it was driving him nuts.
So we ended up with a parrot who constantly repeated lines from TV programmes and loved Countdown and Millionaire, constantly made a sound like the phone ringing or the doorbell, and bullied the poor dog.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0
