  • I was eating white bread buns and a bowl of cheerios, weetabix or shredded wheat. I've gone back to cornflakes now.

I try to eat 3 meals a day due to my uni schedule. I would prefer to eat little and often, but I'm not sure how I could fit it in to my schedule. A weekend is fine for eating little and often.

Don't think I was given antibiotics when I had the op. I was up and about pretty soon after the op. I was decorating my house maybe a week or so after the op.

My weight has never really been stable, however, this is the heaviest I've ever been.

FF - I have been on a total exclusion diet. I went from vomiting up to 15 times a day to being able to eat. I am also intolerant to dairy, in that if I have it, I am wheezing, I have diarrhoea, cramps and vomiting within hours, as I do with wheat. If I eat both, I do not eat, and in the time I was being sick my weight dropped dramatically from 11 stone to 8. So yes, if it is causing severe discomfort, pain or weight loss, then it is a medical problem
    ** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **
    ** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
    **SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

I have to say for me they did not have any effect. I have tried many things in the past. Even my doctor looked into it as she didn't believe me when I said I was not expecting!

I've also tried Danone's probiotic drinks, charcole tablets, deflatine (which helped with gas but not bloating and only when I took 2 packets a week!) am on to Yakult now. (and before anyone asks, I don't eat wheat -for other reasons then because it could cause bloating!)

Sounds like you have an allergy which is a medical condition, not an intolerance which is not recognised by the medical community.

Unless you have a thyroid disorder, weight gain is a simple equation of calories in versus calories out. I suspect you are eating a little too much of the wrong things - sorry to be crude I wouldn't be surprised if you are slightly constipated, you should be 'going' twice a day, after breakfast and after lunch.

Move slowly to only sugar-free wholegrains (porridge with jumbo oats, muesli, shredded wheat, granary toast) along with at least two litres of fluids a day. White carbs and sugars feed the bad bacteria as does undigested food so make sure you are chewing thoroughly. Five to nine portions of fruit and veg for more water, fibre and nutrients.

Definitely try an Acidophilus capsule supplement (store in the fridge, take with food), it's entirely possible your friendly bacteria have got out of balance with your poor diet and having to be 'cleared out' for your operation. Do you mean you were eating bread AND cereal for breakfast? How large are your portions of carbs (by weight)?

Do you have breaktimes at college? With some organisation it's not so hard to eat little and often - every four hours. A piece of fruit, hard boiled egg, chunk of Leskol cheese, flavoured cottage cheese, yoghurt, nut/ seed bars, handful of dried fruit and almonds. You aren't looking to have a meal, you are aiming to tell your body it's not starving and not to overeat when you do sit down.

Can anyone actually point to any published research that a wheat intolerance is a genuine medical condition?

It's entirely possible that I was confusing "wheat intolerance" with gluten intolerance. What I had in mind was coeliac, which is what one of my friends has been diagnosed with.
  • I was having a bowl of cereal for breakfast and 2 sandwiches for lunch. Usually with Qourn as the filling. I also find if I eat a salad, I can feel bloated after eating it.

Sorry to appear pedantic, not meant that way. :o Coeliac disease is the same as gluten allergy; gluten intolerance and wheat intolerance don't exist. If you are allergic to gluten your symptoms are generally much more severe than a bit of bloating - you can be affected by the tiny bit of wheat in a stock cube!

I still need quantities by weight, a bowl can be any size and any fullness and rolls come in all sizes. Exactly what is in the salad? Why are you having two sandwiches if they make you feel bloated?

  • Salad: lettuce, cucumber, peppers, cherry toms, mushrooms mainly.

I don't weigh the food. I eat a regular size bowl of cereal.

As for sandwiches, I was eating them maybe 3 times a week at most, but I noticed a greater bloated feeling after I'd eaten them. Same with shredded wheat or shreddies for example.

I'm not trying to eat soup and a packet of mixed nuts/seeds/fruit.
