Help Can't Get The Chuck Open !

I have a mains drill which has a keyless chuck but there is a drill bit in it and I just can't get it to open !

Is there anything I can try to get it open and be able to use it again or is it a case of having to buy a new electric drill ?

Mole grips and/or a vice to give more leverage?

Yes, try putting the drill into reverse. Hold the chuck tightly (might need a tea towel or something) then pull the trigger. it should slacken it.
I know there are other ways, I'll have a think and get back to you, meanwhile try that.
    I know there's a way with a straight screwdriver but I can't remember for a minute........

PLEASE do not attempt to use a tea towell to try and hold the chuck while operating the drill, better a broken chuck than broken fingers

Grip the drill bit with a pair of mole grips or a vice and try again.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

a smart tap with a hammer is the correct method, not a HIT!

soak it in easing oil (WD40) for 24 hrs will help too.
    Get some gorm.
  • Applying heat to the bit from a blowlamp should create a little expansion in the jaws of the chuck for the bit to be removed after cooling.
