The point is, any payment break at all is not a good idea. The OP never mentioned payment breaks at all, but it is something that was pushed near Christmas, I know the Halifax used to offer it to us.

  • It's a case of !!!! poor planning most of the time. Christmas happens the same time every year folks...

    Do something amazing. GIVE BLOOD.
  • Christmas is the same day every year so it shouldn't be a surprise to people that they have to fork out a bit more at this time of year?? Common sense surely put a little bit away each month and you're covered. I can understand a payment holiday on your mortgage if you've been made redundant, taken a pay cut etc etc (but again people should have some back up for these situations not living hand to mouth every month) but not for something that happens every year to those that choose to celebrate it?!

Come on ,its one day and unless you are religious (which costs nothing anyway)Its not that important that you need to plan a whole year in advance for it ,has the world gone mad?!
    It is one day !!

LOL, go visit the Getting Married Forum! One day is definitely important :P

Anyway beside the quote, agreed mortgage and the new roof is considerably more important than expensive Xmas presents. We shall be spending more on the petrol probably! Mind you with the new roof, we have most certainly have to cut / reduce the honeymoon :(

You could think about it being the 25th day of December rather than being over picky about that one
  • Can't believe anyone would not pay their mortgage and instead use that money for christmas. I personally would want that sercurity and not have to worry how we would pay that defualt. My dh works full time and I am temping althought that has dried up alot over these past 4 weeks. We were relying on my money for presents etc but have to rething a little now as we have no savings. However hard it got we would always pay our mortgage first as you can buy presents any time of the year and you can still have a good christmas on a budget. This will be our first year ever we have not spent alot at christmas on each other and the kids. Being iin this situation does make us appreciate what we have got and are still in a lucky position.
