Asda sell two different packs of belly pork.
SmartPrice version has the skin still on for crackling and the Asda own has the skin removed. I know which one I prefer .........:rotfl:0 -
I'll report in tomorrow on how it went ...
I keep looking at the various food blogs and think: but I could do that! My goal at the moment is to cook 2 new things a week, minimum, and one must always involve a "classic technique" of some kind. So tomorrow, as well as the pork I am making a double-crust apple & blackberry pie, with HOMEMADE custard (also, I have an oversupply of full-fat milk).
Would it be too late to suggest a custard tart, the open ones with nutmeg sprinkled on the top, if you have a surfeit of milk. The custard filling is dead easy to make, one of my favourite tarts.Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw

The pork was fantastic. I did this as we had three plums knocking around:

I thoroughly recommend it. We had it with jasmine rice, stir-fried bok choy and broccoli and omelette rolls (for DD). The crackling was fantastic, though I did have to turn the oven up for 20 minutes at the end. I have heaps of meat leftover and am going to recycle it. We don't need a big main dish as there will be pudding, so tonight it will be some little rissoles with chutney and a green veg. The other half of the meat will be frozen for another occasion. Given that the pork only cost me £5.50 (Waitrose essentials), that's pretty frugal.
We didn't have any pudding, last night! I have apples and blackberries (think pies) but may do some custard as well (or could you do blackberry clafoutis? Hmmm).Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000
