Quick cake on a limited cupboard

First for the cliche - I'm a student and I'm hungry!

I desperately want some cake now but I don't have any self raising flour. I do have plain flour, 2 eggs, vegetable oil, a little milk, chocolate drinking powder and margarine. I'm having severe cake craving and I'm not sure what to make that will rise! I have plenty of tins and an oven also. Does anyone have any suggestions?

On another note, I'd like to say thank you to everyone for their recipes and organisational tips - I now have a fortnight of meals in the freezer and am trying to live more OS (within my cooking skills:p)

Personally I'd give it a go with the plain flour.

I reckon the worst that can happen is it won't rise very well, probably be more like a sponge pudding than a cake, but would still taste good.

Try to beat as much air into as you can, and go for it.

I would add some chocolate drinking powder too as I'm a sucker for chocolate cake.
  • Unfortunately, no baking powder.

Thank you both, I'll go whip up a storm and hope it rises! (I love chocolate cake too!)

A fairly bland one, ideally, I should think. I've made chocolate cakes with EV olive oil, and I can taste it. It's not terrible-but would probably be better without the chocolate (Did I really just say that?:rotfl::rotfl:)-you might end up with something a little bit like those yummy Spanish olive oil cakes.
