If your employer doesent pay you the SSP then you need to get the form from Dept Work & Pensions so it can be paid through them instead

Contact your employer and check to see if they will be paying SSP. If not ask them to send you a SP1 which they have to complete stating why they are not going to pay SSP. Then contact your local jobcentre (don't wait for the form from your employer, do it straight away), explain the reasons and tell them that you need to claim IB, they will either send you a form or give you a telephone number of a First Contact Centre. Some of the questions you will be asked at the cotact centre can seem very personel but it is the same information as on a claim form so don't get angry when they ask them please, they are only doing their job.
What are your personal circumstances? Do you have a partner? Do you have savings below £16,000? If so is your partnet working? How many hours do they work? If you have a partner who is working less than 24 hours a week and savings below £16,000 then claim IS as well.
Do you rent or own your home? If you rent put a claim in for HB&CTB if your own then put a claim in for CTB only (if you go through a contact centre they can do this for you so less paperwork for you to complete).
Also ask for form HC1 as you might be entitled to help with prescriptions.
Hope this helps.0 -
How many hours do you work? Some years ago in a part-time job I never received any SSP, when I queried it it was because I didn't earn enough to qualify.0
