OS tumble drier fragrance sheets

I hoped I'd get the bedding dry outside but it started to pour down, I'll have to tumble them as a last resort but I don't think they ever smell really fresh when they come out. Is there anything home made I can use in the tumble drier to make the washing smell nice instead of those tumble drier sheets? I wondered about putting some essential oil on a bit of cloth in with the bedding but don't know if that would be effective or safe - any hints gratefully received!

Essential oils can catch fire when heated!

I always used to get an old, dry flannel and put a tiny bit of Lenor (my favourite) fabric softener on it then throw it in the tumble dryer with the wet washing. It smells fab and even things that haven't had fabric softener put in the wash come out soft & static free :D HTH

That's what I was worried about! I 'm definitely not going to try the essential oils then!

Oh what a great idea - I love the Lenor lavender one, it's what I use on my sheets anyway - I'll go and give that a shot now! Thanks!
