Advice please!
Before my husband and I got together he ran up about £8k on loans and credit cards with his previous girlfriend - he'd taken them out in his name but she'd more or less spent the money on things for herself and a few things for his house. To cut a long story short, when they broke up he decided that he didn't want to pay the money back because she'd been the one who'd spent it (honestly, I could have strangled him when he told me!) so he ended up with defaults and a couple of CCJ's. This was all about 8 years ago now (if not longer) and the CCJ's have been cleared from his credit history - we managed to get a mortgage together 3 years ago and have also had car loans so everything appears to be fine on that front.
However, we've been getting letters from DCA's for the last 6 years at least (that's as long as we've been together) that my husband has been ignoring and a company called Fenton Cooper called today while I happened to be off work - they wouldn't tell me what it was about but I can only assume it's my husbands debt following him around . . .
Bearing in mind that this was all so long ago, does anyone know if there's anything we can do about it? And do Fenton Cooper actually have any power with this (i.e. further court action, bailiffs etc)? We're stoney broke at the mo and really don't have any spare cash to pay this back. I'm just getting fed up of it now after so long - don't get me wrong, I know my husband is not the innocent party here and that he should have paid the debt back, it's just I seem to be the one worrying about it while he's not bothered!
Many thanks in advance.

Any debt over six years old could be Statute Barred if you have not paid anything or acknowledged the debt in this time. If it is Statute Barred you do not have to pay anything. DCAs will ask you for repayments hoping you are ignorant of the Law, ie 'Statute Barred'0
