Grovel, grovel, grovel and grovel some more.

And hope that previous performance / his standing in the company is good enough to in some way balance out the stupidity of this single incident.

I'm interested to hear how this one turns out. Keep us posted!

SueC, you pretty much got this spot on.

The meeting was today, and he is keeping his job (by the skin of his teeth). There is a significant reason why he is not being dismissed, but I can't reveal that as the people involved could be personally identified from this information. There are, of course, still severe consequences.

I will say this though - lessons have most definitely been learnt all round here, and there is absolutely no doubt that he is sorry for what he did on all levels.

I know there were a few differing opinions on this, but I'd like to thank everyone for all replies, as all of them gave us both things to think about.

I am just glad it is over now and dealt with.

    Thank you all again.

He's VERY VERY lucky and if I were him I would make every effort to be a model employee from now on!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Have to say, from what you have posted his feet wouldn't have touched the ground here.

    Lucky Guy!

I'm glad it's turned out well for him and that the advice you were offered here was of help.

On a compltely separate theme though... WHAT ON EARTH possesses people to post those kind of photos on Facebook???? This is something I cannot even begin to comprehend!

Well, just to play devil's advocate - if her facebook settings were set to 'friends only' she'd be entitled to treat it as a private arena. That of course assumes that this colleague was also a friend, with access to her facebook, rather than the photos being in the public domain, or accessible to random people on her network, or friends or friends.

Or maybe not. Maybe they were in the public domain for anyone to see, rather than him disrespecting the privacy of a friend and colleague, and maybe that's why he wasn't dismissed. Who knows?

Although I have to say he would have been dismissed for GM from any organisation I have ever worked in, and I am sure many people would say the same.

    He is one lucky guy!

Admit he was very stupid, apologise profusely, that's about all he can do. Maybe if he's been a model employee till now he might possibly be allowed to stay on - in which case he should keep his head down and considered himself lucky to still be in a job.

It was a very silly thing to do as it has opened him up to all sorts of accusations whatever he says were the original intentions. However, he also needs to prepare for the worst by updating his CV, networking and looking at the jobs pages.

Did your mama not tell you to read ALL the posts :D - he kept his job.
