Personally I don't think this is as good as some of the other Dell deals recently. This is a 3100 system which has limited upgradeability. Only 512MB memory, 80GB Hard disk, DVD/CDRW so you can't cut DVDs. Monitor is good though, but no graphics card so not much use for gaming and only PCI slots to add graphics into.
In my opinion you'd be better off keeping an eye open for one of the 5100 machines whenever Dell have them on offer. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -

Thanks for that
As always - theres always a better deal round the corner - any ideas on what sort of 5100 deals were around?
I'm happy with upgrading, being very familar with pulling PC's apart ans an IT background - however as you've kindly pointed out, you need the slot there in the first place. As I've been out of the market for a few years I am out of touch with the latest developments, so your help is very much appreciated.0 -
You missed out on the BT special last week (3GHz P4 in a 5100 box for just £250 delivered).
Sometimes you can pick these up from Dell for about £350 if you take the warranty down to 90 day CAR and they have had 2.8GHz P4s available for about £350ish.
With a 17" TFT I would expect to pay no more than about £400 for a decent 5100 box and it's just a question of keeping an eye out here and on hotukdeals to see what offers Dell have on - next set should be around from 1 June I think. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -

I thought I'd missed out but I clicked on the 'email me when back in stock' icon of my prefered system at http://www.shop.bt.com/icat/clearance & had a reply within 12 hours.
When I clicked on 'order this product' on the email, it came up with 'out of stock' again. I clicked on 'Print this page' & thats when the 'Add to basket' feature came up, selecting this & following the instructions I am now awaiting delivery of a 'Dell Mid Range Desktop Dimension 5100 with Works Suite' consisting of a P4 3.0GHz CPU, 512MB RAM, 160GB Hard Drive, DVDRW etc..........all for the princely sum of £249.99 (£269.98 inc del + VAT).0 -

BT deserve a bit round of applause for their deal last week.
I was fortunate to order the £249 deal last week but got an e-mail yesterday saying they were out of stock and offering the 5150 with 3.2 P4 processor, 1gb Ram, 250gb hard drive, 256mb graphics card, 9in1 card reader, network card - at no extra cost!!!!!
THIS IS A BIG UPGRADE and what a computer for £249 - and hats off to BT for upgrading when they can't meet the order.
THANKS TO BT SHOP.0 -
I have tried entering the value code on the Dell website but is not recognised. I have also looked for the 5100 on the BT website and it doesn't appear at all (out of stock or not).Do you think I am too late on both these deals?Anything else out there? I am after a pentium machine for use on internet and home/small business use not interested in gaming. Could do with a flat screen monitor to go with it. Cheap as poss.Any ideas?0

Definitely missed the BT offers I'm afraid. Dell code won't work because they changed them last night, but there are always lots of offers from them. Keep an eye out on this site, or hotukdeals.com but since they've just launched this month's price list I don't think you'll find any bargains for the next few days. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0

Try the link below:

It looks about the best on offer at the moment....
Dimension 5150 2.8GHz Dual Core Processor, 2048 DDR2 RAM, 160Gb Hard drive with 17" TFT monitor + Free Dell 725 Printer for £529.
Other than that keep an eye on the BT shop, all the best & Good luck.0
