Zebra, did you ask for a Giro for her benefits to be sent? I'd ask if you already haven't!
Sorry to hear that your friend is having such a hard time - surely someone needs to realise that personally this poor woman is going through a very tough time and cut her a bit of a break!0 -
Hi Looktothefuture - her DLA, which is her main income, has been paid by giro, but her child benefit and pension need to be paid into a bank account.
Obviously, I'm mad with Nat West, but I'm also mad with Barclays - the original documents were taken into the branch and the photocopies certified as being true copies by a cashier, although they say they were certified using the wrong stamp, well how can that be our fault and why don't they just ask the cashier?
The really worrying thing is that my friend suffers from Huntington's Disease, which involves the deterioration of the brain cells, and one of the things that speeds up that deterioration is stress and anxiety. Although I'm not a doctor I do suspect that all this stress has made her condition worse and that can't be reversed.0 -
As an update:
We managed to open a Barclays account - we went into a main branch and they said the opening procedure had just changed and we could open it there and then - which is what I thought would happen originally!
The staff in that branch were great - really helpful and efficient - well done Barclays :T
We've found out that the reason Nat West closed the account was that they had accepted the proposed reduction in loan payments to £5 a month, so the money lost in the account, which was just after her DLA had been paid in  and was a few hundred pounds, will soon be made up.
So I'm not sure whether to complain to the ombudsman or not in case they revoke their loan decision - I'm tempted just to leave things alone and move on.
I think we also missed a pension payment and a couple of child benefit payments, which they say were sent to the Nat West account and not returned.
Anyway, things are looking up again now, all the payments will now be paid either by giro or into the new account, we're up to date with utility suppliers etc and have no outstanding payments, so looking to change suppliers and payment method.
Thanks to everybody for the help and advice - hopefully 2010 will be a better year for us all.0 -
I'm really glad you're getting things sorted, your friend's lucky to have you.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

British are good at complaining, after by severely damaged parcel i got today i would issue a complaint with the bank first, then the FSA
It cant do any harm
And yes she is lucky to have you to help.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -

What? Natwest are part of RBS are they not? So your friend's pension and DLA are going to fund Fred the Shred's pension and the bankers' bonuses. I would continue to recover all benefits.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
