Letter from CapQuest after 12 years or more

I got a letter today from Telogram saying they were agents for CapQuest & trying to establish my current address.
They listed my last known address - which was somewhere I left at least 12 years ago.
They say they have an obligation to update their file with data concerning my change of address.
I googled them & found out they are a debt chasing company.
It says if I don't contact them it will result in this record moving forward to their investigation unit where further research will be undertaken.
I thought debts not pursued for 6 years were no longer valid?
What should I do
Thank you in advance for any help.
I have no idea what its for, but if I did leave something it wouldn't have been much as I didn't have credit cards or anything then, maybe a catalogue or something
But I really don't know

Absolutely correct for unsecured debt, unless there is a CCJ, but after 6 years, they need court permission to enforce that as well.
Sit tight until they write and tell you what it is about. If it actually is your debt, not that of someone with the same name, then send the statute barred letter.
Once they SB letter is sent they cannot chase you any further. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
It will be unsecured as I was renting.Absolutely correct for unsecured debt, unless there is a CCJ, but after 6 years, they need court permission to enforce that as well.

So you don't think I should even answer it?
Will they write & tell me, will they just turn up at my door?0 -
They may write and tell you.
if they turn up, they have no rights and are breaking the OFT Guidelines - visits only allowed with express permission ast a time to suit you.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

It says I have till the 13 November to contact them, on a phone number with a reference they provided.
So I should still ignore it?
Or write one of those template letters?0 -
Ignore it until you get something in writing that says exactly what they are chasing. Then you can deal with it with confidence.
Their deadline means nothing. Just a tactic to make you phone up so they can try some intimidating and bullying over the phone.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I had a company leave a message on my answer phone asking me to call them, I checked them out and found they were a tracing company including debt collecting.
I phoned them out curiosity and it turned out that a firm I had worked for twenty years before were wanting to close their pension fund and were tracing people so they could pay them off....:j....... good luck bri0 -

Unfortunately, you have no chance at all of that with Telogram/Capquest.
They are exclusively debt COLLECTORS.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I am having the same problem with Capquest, they are chasing me for a 12 year old debt and have sent endless letters, called my house and called my parents house as well... I am sending them the statue barred letter as soon as I get over the flu that I have and see where that gets me. I'm hoping that me sending back one letter as not known at this address and playing completely dumb today on the phone won't go against me!
Does anyone know if it will?0 -
Does anyone know if it will?
Has no bearing whatsoever on whether the debt is statue barred.
Plus, once a debt is barred it stays that way, permanently, for ever, no matter what you later do.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thats good news, I was worried they would try and drag me to court to say I was lying to them about who and where I was lol! So that won't happen then?0
