Colouring hair has dried it out and matted... what to do? olive oil?

Dyed my hair today (semi) and it's dried out and clumped together and refused to comb out with a wide tooth comb. This was after two lots of conditioner.
Aware as a semi washing/conditioning it more will start losing colour, plus serious build up of products, I'm wondering what to do to make it manageable. It's not in great condition atm (desperate for a trim plus not good condition anyways) so attacking it with a brush won't help. Was debating something involving olive oil... any ideas?

I would forget about the colour and apply a good conditioning treatment. I use a L'Occitane one, but there cheaper alternatives - the Aussie ones tend to be good.Gone ... or have I?0

Comb the hair gently with a wide toothed comb while the conditioner is on the hair.
If you try it with olive oil add the shampoo to the oil before the water when washing it out.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

She means when you come to wash it out, add the shampoo to your hair BEFORE you go at it with the warm water0 -
I have coloured hair thats not in the greatest of condition but have found a huge difference with the products from Loreal Elvive Damage Care in the yellow bottle, the leave in conditioner seems to especially effective:) on half price atm in Morrisons and another poster on here said its on offer in Superdrug as well.Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

Don't give up hope, I ironed my hair in my youth and managed to fix the damage! Definitely get some of it cut off, even if it's just the ends. It will make it look a lot better.
Keep conditioning intensively when you wash your hair, and apply a conditioner you can use on dry hair during the day. The conditioner I use in the shower is the Pantene colour one which will keep the colour in and make your hair silky and shiny.
It will eventually look and feel a lot nicer than it does nowChange your conditioner if you feel it isn't working for you- what suits one person may not suit another after all.
And I'm sure this goes without saying but don't use that brand of hair dye again! Hopefully you can find one that's less harsh on your hair.0 -
My friend, who has been a hairdresser for 20 years and has bleached hers for years and years, tells me to get some thick conditioner (I use a Boots own brand one), slap it on (wet or dry hair), I put my hair up with a butterfly clip, and leave it on for as long as possible, preferably overnight.
I went to the Dominican for 2 weeks in the summer 5 days after bleach highlights, and a mass tonging session for my wedding day, and putting conditioner on in the morning and rinsing in the evening every few days kept my hair in lovely condition.0 -
I would second what glowgirl said about the Loreal Elvive range, I have my hair bleached regularly and find the loreal for bleached hair is fabulous.0

There are leave in overnight deep conditioners by several brands. John Freida does one, Kerastase does one, many brands do, I would say I've tried the L'Oreal one which has X10 on the box. Its rubbish. My hair felt no better after using it. I used Philip Kingsleys Elastisizer. I left it on for an hour or more a time (it suggests 20 minutes) I noticed such a big difference! Its well worth the money- I'm lucky, I got mine for free in a goodie-bag! But its on my Christmas list!!0
