Can i get some info here my girlfriend is unemployed who had been staying with her parents, she has recently moved in with me and so has to change the office she claims from, what i need to know is cause she has moved in with me they have stopped her money or they are looking into it,is this right can they do that,we are not married or anything,so what is she supposed to live on?
I have just maybe been paid off from my work which is common in my line of work so i might yet have to start claiming so whats the deal then,i need to get money from them to keep myself what about her does she then get money or is my money i get from jobseekers supposed to keep us both.
What i hate about jobseekers is they always have reasons not to give you money then you get people moving into the country who get everything.
If they have stopped her money or they do what can be done about it,surely they cant do this as it sucks

Please don't start on the immigration issue, it is clearly something you know nothing about.
Is she on contributions based JSA or income based? If income based, you will need to make a joint claim, this will take into account your income and capital as well as hers.Gone ... or have I?0 -
you're going to have to get an answer from your work as to what your situation is, then the two of you are going to have to make a joint claim.
If this isn't long term or serious then when it ends/if then you'll have to cancel the claim (I assume she'll move out again) then make a new one as a single person, but while you're a couple and while you're living together, it definitely needs to be a joint claim.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0 -
So does anyone know how to get around this then,i really dont think its fair she lived with parents, and is now moved in with me,cause we are planning on moving to australia we need to prove we are living and sharing etc so she can get her visa.
So cause she did this and has to change the claim office they dont want to give her anything or have called her to say they will pay her a visit to see if she is staying there, why?
Is this to see if she is?God they can tell my the number she calls them from,is this to see if she is just staying here and just paying me to stay here how would they know,or so see if we are boyfriend and girlfriend?just cause she has moved in with me and is not working she should still get a payment as i am not married or anything to ger,she is just my girlfriend, are they wanting to visit to see if there is a second bedroom and where she sleeps on or to see if we are in same bed etc.
And to confuse things i will be paid off my job near end of this month so i will need to be claiming too, what goes on there, surely there are ways around this or things she can do to keep getting her money etc,no wonder people want to move from uk it sucksTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
There is no way round it if she has to live with you for visa reasons. Unfortuantly as far as I am aware if you live with someone and one is unemployed, they look at the household income. When you become unemployed you will have to put a joint claim in as others above have also mentioned.
Why not see if there is any pub work going in the area for your other half to do, its minimum wage but it is better than having no money coming from anywhere at all doing a few hours a week.0 -
You cant have it both ways.
You want her to be "together" for the sake of government visa purposes, yet "apart" for the sake of benefits purposes.
And twice you have moaned about immigration, yet you are moving to Australia with a unemployed girlfiend (or not, depending on whos asking), oh the irony.

Is she on definitely income based JSA? If she is on contribution based then she should be able to keep claiming.
I do understand why you're upset because I have been in a similar situation. When I lived with my parents they supported me as much if not more than my partner does now. It does seem silly but rules are rules and there is no way around it.
Maybe check out what else you are entitled to if you haven't already. I don't blame you at all for wanting to leave this country and make a better life for yourself. Good luck.0 -

Good call!
Nowadays a criminal record is more of a hindrance when emigrating to Australia, whereas it used to be mandatory!;)0 -
