Exemptions for spend free days!

Options
Dont know about anyone else but my ebay/amazon selling is seriously affecting spend free days because of having to post stuff all the time! Psychologically this is actually getting me down a bit as I am trying to have 3 spend free days a week but with sending ebay stuff off this is impossible so am not reaching my goals!
Dont know if anyone else finds this? Think that ebay & amazon postage should be exempt! As I type this realise that some will think that this is REALLY silly but psychologially it really doesent help and seeing as this DFW is partly a mind game...what do others think!

    I think it is up to each person to decide what counts as a spend free day for them.

    I personally would not include postage costs for ebay/amazon sells as the buyer pays these when paying for the item.

    I sell on Amazon but don't count my trips to the post office as a 'spend'.

    It does go in my spending diary but in a column all of it's own, so I can balance the cash flow.

    Very anal probably, but it works for me.

    BTW Post Office was heaving today due to end of month tax disc people!

    I dont count Ebay postage as a spend either, since someone else has already given you the money for it, so its not ur money ur spending!

    Plus does anyone ever consider the change from the postage as an income for that day.
    So say I sell a pair of shoes on Ebay for £10, and postage costs are £5.
    But actual cost is £3.50
    Do you consider that you've made £11.50???

  • I don't count eBay postage as a spend either, although I must say that I have to be careful as in the past I've used my own money for the postage and said to myself that I'll pay myself back out of what the buyer has paid then never done it!

    But that was pre MSE!!!

    Haven't sold anything on eBay for a while now, but will be getting back into it soon. And I won't be counting eBay postage as a spend then and will be sure to pay myself!!

    sorry, this turned into a bit of a ramble!!

  • Hey,

    I keep a £50 float for eBay postage in a previously unused bank account. I take out £10/£20 a time and keep it in a seperate purse or bank bag in my bag. Therefore when I post eBay/Amazon stuff, I use this money.

    I then top up my float everytime I transfer money from paypal - i.e. £50 to this account (thus avoiding the 25p fee) and the extra to my current account to pay off debt.

    Well that's the theory!

    scottishspendaholic x
    MBNA = £4,000 / Next = £925 (approx. tbc on 19/8)
    Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500
    Bank of Scotland = £2,782.83

    I was wondering about this too - I would have a few more no spend days without it.

    I tend to get the whole amount (so selling price + what I've paid for postage) and then minus the actual costs for P&P. Everything else goes into debt.

    Annoying about Paypal charges but hey, it's convenient!
