Student Loan Repayments

Hello,

I've only just joined so apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I left Uni' in May '08. I got a job in August '08 as a Recruitment Consultant and was made redundant in January '09. During this time I claimed Jobseekers' Allowance and remember receiving a letter from the SLC informing me that my repayments had been stopped whilst I was looking for a job. I think it was worded along the lines of ''we've heard your circumstances have changed''.

I found another job and started April 2009. I only recently realised that my payslips aren't mentioning anything about Student Loan Repayments, whereas a friends' do. Should I be worried about this? Do payslips always state that a chunk of that money is for repayments?

I would check my statements, but they're sent to my Mum's address and rather than worry her(!) i'd rather wait until the weekend when I go home before checking but just thought I'd find out if anyone has had a similar experience and that this is ok...

I do know that you have to earn a certain amount before deductions are taken and you apply for a payment holiday.

Thank you very much for your reply. That's the thing, I'm earning £19,000, over the £15,000 or so you need to earn to qualify for repayments.

That's £19k salary, not £34,000! I wish!

Did you hand in your P45? As thats supposed to tell your new employer. It might be worth a call to the Student Loan Company and make sure records are up to date, etc.

when you started your new job in april 2009 presumably you filled in a P46... did you tick the box saying you had a student loan?
