Thanks Phil.
Still none the wiser as to what the letter may be about. Did notice the word 'statutory demand' in a couple of links I looked at. Wonder if it HSBC trying to put frightners on useven though is a SB debt.

Yes philnicandamy is correct in pointing out that a notary is a lawyer (of sorts). I don't know where abouts you are OP, but most solicitors here in Scotland are also Notaries. I think from my limited knowledge of the legal profession in England it is looked upon there more as a separate branch of the legal profession distinct from solicitors. A sworn document such as an affidavit or eg. some declarations to Companies House may require to be sworn in the presence of a notary, who will countersign and impress his or her seal on the deed. Other examples of work they may do could be certifying copies of documents eg. for a visa application and no doubt many other similar things.

Looked at the link you posted to the Notary's website and doesn't sound like he does any kind of work involving debt recovery etc.m but suppose it could be a possibiltiy.0

Just spoken to DH on his lunch break and he told me to open it.
It is from these chaps http://www.intercred.com/content.aspx?Page=Home who share the same address. It is for the DVLA chasing a payment for a car we no longer have. We got rid of it ages ago and had a letter from the DVLA a couple of weeks ago to say they knew this. So I will have to dig the letter out and write to them with a copy of the letter.

Phew indeedy
Nearly got all our debt sorted now through SB and CCA. Just the odd bits now. Will be checking our credit files in the new year and start to try and rebuild out credit and get some decent life insurance/critical health insurance in place and then really get into having a cushion of savings.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0
