NI MOT centers, anyone had any problems with their car after visiting one?

on Janurary i took my car to an MOT centre and it went through its test, however only now 5 months down the line, i have been told by a tyre fitting company that the machine that the MOT people use to test the car had put the alignment off, which ment unknown to me (util now) that the car tyres were wearing on the inside.

so £100 lighter and a bit wiser i was wondering if anyone else has had the same sort of problem, and if so did the MOT centre ever sort it out for them?

My car has been shaking quite alot ever since the MOT (only above 60mph mind you).... my gf has had problems too with a previous car. The problem is, what can you do about it?

Not had a problem with my own car, but £100 for wheel alignment?????
I had mine done about a year ago in a tyre place across from the Fire Brigade training HQ in Boucher road. Cost £36 to get it done.

talksalot81 sounds like you need to get yours aligned.

bingo bango: it cost 13.95 for the alignment the total cost of 100 included 2 brand new tyres as the other two were worn right down to the wire on the inside, and they were brand new 4 months ago.

ginger_nuts: Complain, complain, and complain again.

I'm writing a letter to the mot office

    DE
    DVTA HQ
    Balmoral Rd.
    BT12 6QL

It may not get me my money back but the least they could do is to start putting signs up saying that you should think about getting your wheels aligned after the test, or they should do it for you straight after

Waste of time complaining. The test centre yanked my handbrake so hard they snapped the cable during my last MOT. I complained and was basically told "tough"

They argued that it couldn't have been up to standard. It was only a new cable

The Derry Journal recently reported about an incident in which the emissions tester screwed up a car - most likely at the Newbuildings test centre.

I'll try and dig out the story and provide a better update.

Well we have found out the alignment is the problem. One tyre went flat so took it off and have my hands shreaded to pieces by the metal 'frame' within the tyre.... it is worn almost through to the tube. The other side is almost as bad making the car totally undriveable.

I dont know whether the problem was with the test or with the guy who serviced it, but one way or another, it is going to cost me 2 new tyres and alignment.

It is totally nonsensical that yu take your car to be checked for safety and they either miss something as serious as my problem, or actually cause it! You almost need to have your car checked over AFTER the MOT because is is pretty darned clear that the MOT is not a very thorough check of a cars roadworthyness.

Guys, state which centre you were at so we can avoid them...
  • the test centre that i went to was one in Larne.

They guys were ok but the guy in the tyre place said it was due to the new machines that they use.

SAme story for me. Guy yanked the handbreak so hard that it broke.
    Newtownards.

Surely if the handbreak holds you on a hill then its fine is there a need to yank it so hard it wrecks something. I was told tough as well. Doesnt make sense to me. they dont rev your car till it explodes or test the suspension till it breaks so why destroy peoples hand break?

on a different note i had a motorbike failed for the letters of the bumber plate bring to small. He had a ruler out!!! over a mm to thin.

    What a joke
