he works in a factory and still has his job...think he should be thanking his lucky stars that he still has a job, and that he only has to worry about when he has has a holiday, not whether he can pay his leccy bill this week.Kent Bird!:beer:0

He doesn't work in a factory ..... it isn't a manufacturing job hence why it is unusual move to shut everything. Anyway that is academic.
We have actually already been through redundandcy in June 2008 so fully appreciate the postion he is in. I am, however, allowed to feel narked without having to apologise for it. I do also, however empathise with those in difficult situations.
Thanks BenL....we did use a couple of aries last year. We talked this morning about getting even more self sufficient.0 -
I agree this is a pain!
I find it abhorrent that the prices increase so very much when you get into school holiday dates! It does not cost them any more to provide the holiday its sheer greed (or supply and demand in economic terms), and those of us with children who don't want their education to suffer (and folks like you who are forced to go at this time) are hit hard in the pocket!
You can stand there and agonize........

I realise this is a bit of a rant thread - hopefully getting it of your chest a little has helped.
The best thing tho is to turn it into a positive... can you plan 2 things - maybe smaller but still things to look forward to. Maybe a long weekend in June - before you start. Then accrue yuor holidays so you can take a week off with hubby in august. Plan both of them to be fantastic - so although its not a big long holiday you feel like you've had a good break!0 -
I'm probably going to get slated for being so harsh but here goes.
Who said you HAVE to go on holiday?? If you think its too expensive and any other time would be inconvenient due to starting a new job, why not just put it off until the year after when its for suitable?? I don't care what anyone says, you don't HAVE to have a holiday, its a "nice to have" not a neccesity!
I really can't see what your moaning about, at least you would both be in full time employment and would have some money in the bank for a rainy day.
If thats of no comfort to you, think of all the people in this country who don't know where the money for their next meal is coming from and thank your lucky stars you are in a position to fret about your 3 weeks away in the sun!0 -
Some of the responses on this thread are a little bit annoying and i'm prompted to add my bit:o
I think squirrelchops is entitled to feel miffed, she has stated from the beginning that it is a rant and she knows that her oh is lucky to be employed.
I don't see why everyone has to therefore keep telling her how lucky she is and how she shouldn't be complaining? We all know the state the country is in and there are alot of people in dire straits and that's awful. It doesn't mean that no one can grumble about anything anymore does it?
My friend had a problem with her boiler last week, she ended up having no hot water. When she was letting off steam about how the kids baths were going to be tricky i didnt tell her to stop moaning because there are people in other parts of the world without access to water?0 -
Thanks all. Feel better for the rant!!
Timberflake I have no issue with what you have said so don't see why you should be slated.
I do however, refer to what I have said on numerous occasions in that I am taking ownership for how I feel and so what if I am narked....that is how I feel and I am allowed to express that.
As for only having my '3 weeks away in the sun to fret about'....this is because I needed a nice thing to think about at currently I have other 'stuff' going on so focusing on a positive, such as a holiday is my coping mechanism.
I do appreciate all points of view and know we are lucky in our household with what we have.....albeit also from a lot of hard work too which pays for our lifestlye choices.0 -

Good one!!!
Your post said exactly what I feel. :T0 -
Tamlem thank you for your support but honestly I am not at all taking umbrage by others comments.
I wasn't looking for the sympathy card just a rant....as so many others do on here and I have done so!!!!!!
I am carp when plans get changed and know this is a weakness of mine. I had it in my head when we could go away and thought how lovely it would be in france being quieter etc so for it to alter takes my brain about 24 hours longer than most people to get their head round!!!
Just me and one of my many foibles!!!0
