  • Thanks OP, M&S kept it quiet didn't they! Got my DS a couple of nice long sleeved t shirts and a hoody as he is growing loads at the mo so thats saved me a few quid.

Getting it delivered into my nearest store to save on postage, was planning to go in next week anyway and saves me waiting in for a parcel to arrive.

Thanks OP, I wouldn't have known about the sale either. I got a few nice things from the kids clothes. Its just a shame they wont include my local m&s for the instore delivery that would have been even better, but I used 10% voucher and quidco so pretty good - £15 for 2 kids shoes and a boys jumper delivered

just had a phone call to say my order is being cancelled as all items are out of stock - i ordered on the 4th, so cant see how my items have suddenly become out of stock over a week later

if you order for delivery to store, do they not pick your order until the day before your collection date? as i was supposed to be picking it up tomorrow, so can only assume, until its picked, its still classed as being in stock for other people to order? if id known this happened, i would have had the stuff delivered - totally peed off, as most items were christmas presents

I think there are usually not as many items in stock as the computer thinks, and the first orders to be picked get the goods. It seems to happen a lot in M&S sales. The best thing seems to be to go for standard delivery, then they simply pick it and send it as fast as they like, rather than named day delivery or collect from store on a certain day as, like you say, they do not bother to pick your order until the day before they have to.

I agree, I tend to do next day if possible then at least yours should get picked early.

queried it with M&S and yes they dont allocate stock. stock levels only get updated upon dispatch - a bit of warning would have been nice, but they said the fact their T&C state payment isnt taken until dispatch, means they dont need to have a website that lists stock levels based on orders placed

they also said that if the system says there are under 10 items in stock, work on the likelihood, there are actually none in stock, and dont bother ordering - i really think they dont want my custom

  • I had the same problem. I ordered when there was quite a few things in stock of what I wanted. But by the time they verified my payment then went to dispatch, there was no stock left for 2 of my items. I was very unhappy with this, so emailed them. They basically said they don't reserve the items until they are ready to be dispatched.

But as a goodwill gesture, they added £10 to my account to use on my next purchase from them. Although I am grateful, I would have still preferred the items I ordered.
