Friday is D day!

So Friday is my D-day! My salary will go into my new account and my letters advising of my DPM will be sent to the people I owe money too; Including my old bank but I am sure they will notice on Friday when my salary isnt swallowed up by my overdraft. I have made token payments to both my credit cards and I have left enough money in my old acct to cover a loan payment with them but then after that.....
I am anxious about the calls / letters that will start to come in but where possible have removed my phone number from everything and attached a letter with the CCCS form asking that they respect my privacy at work and only contact me in writing
I told my partner last week and he was supportive which has given me more confidence.
I knew I could no longer bury my head and this site has been amazing from help with the initial contact with CCCS after payplan couldnt help, guidance on completing letters and opening a basic bank account
It is asy to use, non-judgemental and a good read.
Well done all involved:T
Heres to being debt-free before I am 40!!:rotfl:

    Good luck with it.

You will need to ride the storm for a while where the creditors are concerned.

What I did when I started my dmp, was to ring all of my creditors once, explained the situation to them, gave them my CCCS ref number and told them that from this point I would not be entering into any further conversations with them. They would be wasting their time and my time as they could see from my I&E that they were getting all that I could afford and there was no point in calling me any further. I also mentioned that telephone calls would not be answered, would be noted and if necessary, reported as harrassment. Of course, they totally ignored my but I stuck to my guns. I complained to whoever I could and as a result, have not had a phone call since August last year. They just write to me instead now which is fine as I just ignore most of the letters as they are asking me to call them!

  • Hi Deep in debt
I appreciate the advice, luckily as part of my cost cutting the home phone went a few months back and the I only answer my mobile if I know the number otherwise they can leave a vm and I will call back
I will probably call my bank as I have been with them for 20yrs, however one of my debtors is MBNA and as they have recently charged me £12 for underpaying them by 67p I feel no guilt about only dealing with them by post
I have been in a state over my debt sleepless nights etc so I am am ready for the onslaught as I know the future is looking brighter
    :-)

glimmer...apologies, I forgot to say hi and welcome to wonderful world and people of MSE. I do forget my manners.

I have caller display on my phone but the creditors tried to get crafty and ring me from other numbers. My friends and family and people I want to speak to, know not to withold their numbers and if they do, then they leave a message and I call them back almost immediately.

I had really grovelly letters from creditors - one called me on my landline from 8am - 9pm and on my mobile constantly during the day - can you imagine the snotty letter I sent??? I went for a job interview and was in the interview for an hour, left my mobile in the car on silent and when I got out, I'd had 8 missed calls and 6 on my home phone within that hour from one creditor. That is harrassment!

Things will get better. I've been on my dmp since January last year and the last of my calls stopped in August last year from the above annoying creditor.

You are doing the right thing. When I started with CCCS I was told it would take me 9 years to clear my debts but within a few months I'd reduced that term to 5 years by getting an extra job, and being a bit more savvy with money and shopping. It's hard at first, but you get used to it.

I started speaking French when answering the phone last year, all phonecalls that were rubbish usually hung up. There have been a number of DCA's who have tried to communicate with me but I usually continue with the french or a very bad version of Inspector Clouseau!. No DCA has rang since March. If my 14 year old son answers and it's a DCA he tells them off because one DCA told me I had to stop buying my children Birthday and Xmas presents,he got wind of this and now he's declared war on them if one rings!:rotfl:
  • Hi, that sounds like a good plan...I might just keep saying hello, hello as if I cant hear them
Luckily I only have my mobile and it is on silent at work and all the people I want to speak to display their numbers
Have posted letters today, wages in new account and just waiting to print of final bank statement and get that off to CCCS
I have brought a cash and bank book and plan to record every transaction...I am hoping this is the start of good spending habits :-)

You have to keep slugging it out and keep going, it isn't easy and you have to be single minded. I said noone is getting any more without a massive fight even if they want to hang me!. Good luck
