Desktop Computer

Hello all.
can anyone give me some advise?
I need a desktop computer for generally internet purposes and keeping a few files and documents, nothing extreme.
I have about £550 - £600 to spend or less if possible, but want the whole package inc speakers, mouse, keyboard and printer.
What make would you recommend? Is Dell really a good deal? Have you got any discount codes to share? Have you got any advise?
Thanks very much to anyone that can help me.

You can get a basic desktop computer for much less than that - mine cost me £300 2 years ago - a HP UK.4400 and another £30 for a printer. I have a dell laptop that only cost £300 again about 2 years ago and it's fine for basic surfing and documents.Loui1979 wrote:Hello all.

Buying a bundled package is a good idea if you want Microsoft software. You can also get free office applications like OpenOffice which I also use.
Here's the best value I've found so far, I haven't included any sites as I work for a retailer and don't want to get caned
You can use pricerunner or kelkoo or dealtime to search (don't forget to go through quidco.com for some cashback). Compare these prices to a bundle and make your mind up on what features you value most, for instance, I have top of the range speakers because I love my music. Before you buy, check for the best cashback deal and don't forget to include delivery!
Generic 17" tft monitor - 104.99
Lexmark E120N - PC Pro A List (Printers are more costly to run that to buy!) - £93
Speakers - These are subjective really, you can go for a top brand or get something bog standard for about £4.
HP Pavilion A1210 - an ideal home PC with full multimedia and DVD burning capabilities - £199.99
* AMD Sempron 3000+ processor
* 256 MB Memory
* 80GB Hard Drive
* DVD+/- RW (+R double layer)
* 5.1 Channel surround sound
* ATI Radeon Xpress 200 graphics
* Microsoft Windows XP Home plus whole host of software packages including MS Works 8.0"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

Yes, Dell really is a good deal.
I have been building my own computers for over 10 years, but my next windows PC will be a dell. Build quality is excellent, they're easy to maintain etc etc etc. It's better if you can wait around for the best offer though (19" monitor + 9150 dual core + printer for £400 a few weeks back, or the current £299 deal for the 1300 inspiron laptop (or £349 with wifi) with an upgrade to the 6-cell battery pack). Or the £130 bt/dabs offer last week for just the base machine without a monitor.
Or you could just get a lovely mac mini from ebay (the new intel ones are a tad on the pricey side) - soooo much smaller and nicer than a windows PC...
If you're decided on getting a PC then personally I'd hang out for a decent dell offer for a few weeks (they get updated on thursdays). You can get speakers from anywhere - tescos probably sell them these days, or argos/dixons. Dell's own speakers are around £12 when ordered with a PC, and the free mouse & keyboard are decent quality.
Another plus for dell is the amount of noise they don't make in comparison to other computers. The 5150 I have at work has only a single fan IIRC - it doesn't even have a fan on the power supply. This makes it *very* quiet compared to most other computers out there.
HTH, and good luck!0
