I know that when they did this with one of my friends they wouldn't let her pay it back, they just adjusted the amount she got weekly until it was paid back. In her case it was over £3000 and they didn't start taking it back until the next year even after she phoned and wrote to them loads of times.
Have you had your new award letter yet as this might be money they still owed you from last year. Phone them and check it out as you don't want to be left with having to repay it next year every week.0 -
And find a nice little isa or something high interest to put it in in the meantime
Check check and check again. If they tell you its your all yours, then get them to put it in writing. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

i spoke to them last week, about my renewal form (05-06) as this time round our earnings were less than expected so it could be the difference that they owe god it would be nice!LIGHT BULB MOMENT, JUST IN THE NICK OF TIME!

Yeah it could be the difference, it happened to my sister a couple of years ago when she changed job and they paid in an extra £600, like you she didn't know what it was and phoned them and they told her it was because her earnings went down.
I just got my award letter for this year and they owed me 0.01p from last year, but they also reduced my payment this year by £500 because HB done a lot of overtime in the last few months to get extra for Xmas, car MOT, DIY. He's just had a payrise of about £15 per week so now we're only £5 a week better off, that is until next year and we'll get less again because of his payrise, it's a neverending cycle.
Hope it's the money they owe you from last year as I'm sure you could think of many ways to spend it.0 -
The key thing is DON'T spend the extra!
Even if it takes them a while to get around to it, they can ask for you to repay the extra you received, especially as it's quite a big overpayment you would fall into the 'must have been aware they were overpayed' category.
It's happening to A LOT of people, and a lot are being left short when they're asked to repay, or have the difference deducted from their later payments.
So by all means pop it in an ISA or somewhere where it'll earn you some interest, but please don't spend it!

i know what you mean, ive told dh not to do too much over time as you lose it in wftc, its never guarenteed, and you lose so much more in tax! its a vicious circle and the only one who wins is the tax man
no i am going to transfer it to my savings account they cant take it back without my permission and if its left there it wiill get spent!
i would rather sit and wait i know i cant have more than 2k in savings as they deduct from you, so im going to enjoy menatlly spending this bit like window shopping lol:beer:LIGHT BULB MOMENT, JUST IN THE NICK OF TIME!

If or when they ask for it back pay it back in small payments at 0% interest, although they are more likly to adjust your payments you receive.Thought I saw the light at the end of the tunnel....Then got hit by a train! :A
