My son - yes son - has left hair straighteners on maple work top; result two scorch marks. Can anything be done?

Advice welcomed.

    Don't have any idea about the maple - sorry.

    May be a bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted but you can buy a protective mat for him to use in the future - about a fiver from EBay.
